    Splash!

I've gone back to trying to capture an ice cube falling into a glass. I spent pretty well all day just to get one shot that is more or less acceptable. Lots of cleanup work between shots to get rid of the water that has splashed everywhere and the trigger doesn't always fire reliably.

This should keep me locked away for a few more weeks...

Now that's where the latest 'Pre Capture' feature would be useful.

Now if they could only make that functionality work with studio flash, that could be interesting.

Yes, that's certainly one drawback with it. I've not yet thought about using HSS with the pulsed light, some experimentation is required.

I have a garden full of toads at night and it's been a long time aim to capture one jumping.

i wonder if setting up some kind of optical trigger might not be the best approach here. I've spoken to some bird photographers who have used that technique quite effectively.

The downside seems to be that there are many, many more misses than good captures (measured in thousands of captures to get one great shot).

I think there's a little too much going on in the front glass.

Agreed - I was trying to get a bit more sharpness from front to back, so moved the bottles closer to the glass, which magnified the bottles more distinctly. I don't mind the the look from an aesthetic standpoint, but the ice cube gets lost visually.

If I have time this week, I hope to try a few other ideas. Finding the right balance in this type of shot is proving to be a bit elusive right now, so I need to do some more testing. Unfortunately, transparent glass photography is rather unforgiving at times...

Why has no one asked about the typo in the title of this thread?

Are am I missing the joke?

Not at all. I had wondered when someone would notice that.

Time to correct the typo now...
