    Swallowtail

This chap has been a very occasional visitor in my garden but I've never managed a good shot until this morning. Must be my lucky day.
I think it's a Papilio eurymedon, commonly called Palid Swallowtail.

    Swallowtail

PS Now having doubts because the above is a US species not normally seen in Europe. However Papilio Machaon, the European cousin, is much more yellow and has twin red "eyes" on the inner edge of the lower wings.

I think it might be a Scare Swallowtail, Iphiclides podalirius:

In my book the Scarce Swallowtail is an exact match. The early brood has a more yellowish background colour but the second brood is mostly white with black cross bands.

Yes, Scarce Swallowtail ("Flambé"). There's one species in France that closely resembles it (Iphiclides feisthamelii, Iberian Scarce Swallowtail or "Voilier blanc" ), but it's only found near the eastern Pyrenees (in France).
Two links: Swallowtail ("Machaon") and Scarce Swallowtail ("Flambé")

    Thanks for the ID.

Here's another shot from the same morning, this time in company with a Comma (I think).
