I don't enjoy shooting images with my iPhone and the only time I ever use that phone for photography is in an emergency - like recording the results of an auto accident.
Instead, I use a mirrorless camera and I will always have a flash attached to that camera and will most often use fill-flash when shooting images outdoors. Since I live in Southern California the sun is bright most of the time and the flash will fill in the shadows. IMO - the fill flash will often improve the general quality of my imagery.
My wife only shoots with her iPhone and I notice that her images would often benefit from the use of a fill-flash. Sure - we can work on those images in Photoshop but, I much prefer to get an image correct in-camera (in this case I guess you would call it, "in-phone")
Is there any way that the iPhone can simulate the use of fill flash outdoors?
