David,
To me, the image showcases a well-composed arrangement of vibrant vegetables centered in the frame, complemented by a contrasting blue pitcher placed diagonally to guide the viewer's attention.
The soft, front lighting highlights the textures and colors while a dark background isolates the subjects, creating drama and depth. The limited blue-green-black color palette adds visual interest and unity.
Finnaly, the image effectively employs framing, lighting, and color to achieve a sense of intimacy, warmth, and harmony, making it a well-executed still life photograph.
Thank you for sharing. Well done !
Cheers
Thanks, I'm pleased you like it.
Nicely done David - I like this a lot.
Another nice work, David. The cool tones of the jug and the warm tones of the vegetables work well together. While I like the wrinkles and folds on the cloth under your subjects, I find the background might work better if it were smooth. As you have it, I find the folds slightly distracting.
I think this is a great shot in my opinion.
Cheers Ole
Thanks Ole.
@manfred : The background - yes I tend to agree. This is part of an on-going series and many of the others have plain, pure black backgrounds using as main light a gridded softbox on the left, partly turned away to feather the light. So to add a bit of variety, for this shot I reduced the feathering to just partially light the background. It worked exactly as I'd intended but, like you, I'm not sure it improves the shot.
The shapes are simple enough for a background selection to work well, I'll try generating a version with uniform black background.
I liked the way the folds of the background cloth almost look like a soft backlight to the jug, as well as being a continuation of the table drape. Not overdone, and adds a bit of interest to the background.
I find the the folds on the background cloth add some interest to it; they are like subtle diffused rays of light radiating from a point source above the top of the frame.
On the other hand I am undecided whether I like the different colours of the fabrics used for the background and tabletop or whether I might prefer them to be the more similar.
