Water Rail
Seen in the Le Teich wildfowl reserve in the Bassin D'Arcachon in SW France. I've not managed to photograph one before...

This shot justified lugging a massively heavy 150-600mm f5.6 around a 7km hike !

Lurking amongst wet foliage and reeds make them a difficult bird to photograph. If you ever manage a front view it becomes obvious how we got the English expression 'As thin as a Rail'.
