    Another bass player

This time it's Alessandra Lopez with the Daniel Garcia trio in a another Limoges jazz festival concert.

Another great capture of the musician's expression.

I find the bright spotlight top left very distracting, and the in-focus and bright amps less so but still distracting. If you are willing to give up a tiny bit of the scroll, you can crop the light out easily, then darken the background. I fiddled a bit but didn't try blurring the amp. This is quick and dirty but shows the direction I was thinking of:

I agree with Dan. Good shot, but that spotlight really draws the viewer's attention away from the musician.

Right now I do not have time to comment on this version but I promise I will.

Maybe cloning out the spotlight and maintaining the smokey area, which adds atmosphere to the image.

The modifications I've made to the original photograph aim to preserve as much of the atmosphere captured during the artist's performance as possible.

I was particularly drawn to the perforated plate in the foreground. Initially, I thought it would be interesting to remove it entirely. However, the spotlight in the upper left corner presented an opportunity to enhance the overall composition.

Using artificial intelligence and the tools available in my software, I experimented with two primary changes: removing the plate and adding a more defined cone of light to the spotlight, integrating it seamlessly into the scene.
After attempting to remove the object in the foreground, I decided to increase the image's canvas size to allow for a slightly wider framing while maintaining the original aspect ratio.

It's clear that further refinement would be necessary to achieve a more believable result. Nevertheless, I'm quite pleased with the outcome of this relatively quick edit.

Enlarging the image also allowed me to reposition the artist slightly to the right, preserving the spotlight's prominence.

Hope you like it, in spite of

Well, we have a full range of opinions here!

Antonio, the plate you referred to is a music stand. As Roy pointed out, the bassist had her bow resting on it while she was playing pizzicato, so your AI solution has it suspended in mid-air. There is also a weird triangular artifact in the extension of the pants, which seems to be created by the light color of her actual pants, which AI didn't extend, and the shadow, which it did.

I think the bigger issue is the light. You liked it and even made it more prominent, while I thought it was a distraction and eliminated it. Perhaps that is more or less the difference between an environmental portrait and a portrait.

    Royent and Dan,
Thank you for your thoughtful feedback on my adjustments to David's original photo.

Regarding the AI-generated outcome, I'm confident that with more dedicated work, we could produce one or more results that would be significantly more believable.
The stunningly realistic results showcased in AI advertisements don't always align with what we can achieve in practice. This discrepancy may be attributed to my limited knowledge and experience in this area rather than any inherent limitation of the technology, I am sure !

I didn't perceive the lighting as a distraction but rather as a crucial element contributing to the overall composition. My intention was to create an environmental portrait, as the artist's pose and interaction with the environment suggested a dialogue with the viewer.

An interesting exercise Antonio - I've tried extending other images using AI and had some quite good results.
Regarding the modifications, I prefer Dan's crop because I see this more as a portrait. However, I would prefer to keep the top of the scroll so I'll try removing the light by other means and see what we get.

There, light removed and the scroll restored, I quite like that.

I agree: better to leave the scroll intact. A superb portrait.
