    Old mill

Taken in the Old Schwamb Mill in Arlington, MA, the oldest continuously operating mill in the US. There is still one woodworker making custom wood frames there using some of the old tools, although the steam and mill-pond power has been replaced with a 5-HP electric motor used to drive the same belt system.

I like this. It shows a nice collection of old tools in their setting which is interesting by itself. The beautifully captured saw blades have obviously not seen much action in a long time. The only thing that seems out of place is the red tag behind the large saw blade.

which unfortunately I didn't think to move before taking the shot.

One of the interesting things about the mill is that it's still in use, on a small scale. They even still use some of the old tools that were powered back in the day by water or steam; they run the same belts and pulleys, just powered by an electric motor. So the rooms are filled with old things and new. The t-square in this shot is looks fairly new, while some of the other stuff probably dates back to the 19th century.

I am not too pleased with the collection of images I got on this first trip. Among other things, I misjudged DOF in several cases. I may go back to try again.

"fairly new" is a relative term. I wouldn't be surprised if that T-square were 75 years old or more.
