    The wasp in flight is a superb capture.

    It's hard to see at this size, but it looks like you missed focus slightly on the hoverfly--looks like it's focused roughly at the front of the abdomen.

    We don't have much in the way of bugs yet this year. Haven't decided whether to try my hand again. I hate to admit it, but I find it harder than in the past to get into weird positions and hold steady.

    I wonder if the spider is one of the jumping spiders (Salticus species). I am seeing a few on my house walls and fences at the moment.

    Is the Sphaerophoria hoverfly a recent photo? They are mostly a mid summer species but a few can appear by late March and the flight period can also extend well into October.

    Hi Geoff yes it is a jumping spider and the hoverfly is from last summer
