    Project 52 A different Primrose

The town where I live have an amateur football team called the Primrose. They had a home game on Saturday and the weather was kind so I took myself and the XT-5 along to the park. These were all shot with the 16 to 80mm. I had thought about adding the extender tube but that's for another day now that I have a baseline set of images.

You have some nice action shots but most are showing the back of the player. It would be nice to see some facial expression.

Totally agree, but I decided to walk to the game which meant leaving the camera bag at home and I stupidly did not check the battery level before I left and it ran out before I had made my way to a better spot. However the main objective was to try the XT-5 + 16 to 80mm lens for some action shots so I'm not too upset.

The first three shots have some interesting elements.
They could be underscored by tighter cropping. The first image shows a player practically off the ground with a ball on his head. Perhaps tightening the crop to him and the three players nearby would help. On the second shot, a tighter crop can highlight the three players in action better. In the third image, player number 9 has a crazy stance that people don't usually take unless you're playing soccer. Again, a crop of the four players would help focus the action.

I've had another look at the posted images and while appreciating the feedback, with the exception of the last image (the one with the 2 players, numbers 2 and 11), I would suggest that there's another way of looking at it. In the first one, only two of the 7 players have their backs to the camera and over all it shows how the defence is responding to the attackning move; in the second shot the interest is on the keeper making the save (but perhaps it would be better if I cloned out the number 4 player); the third is all about the flow towards the goal.

The shots are of a constantly changing scene and remind me of a newspaper sports quiz that was popular when I was a teenager (don't ask when that was!). It was called "Spot the ball" and consisted of scenes like the first 3 here, but with the ball edited out. You had to mark where you thought the ball was and send in your entry to win a modest cash prize. I never did enter but did usually try to "spot the ball" and never got a bull's eye .

    Thanks Daniel.

Yes, agreed and I'll give it a go tomorrow - it 6:45PM here and the Camera Club annual dinner is at 7 so no edits tonight.

I'm interested in trying that anyway to see how far I can push the X-T5's 48MP sensor.

I agree with you that you have good action shots. Yes, there are faces but they are so small that we can't see the players' emotions on their faces. I am not a soccer, sorry football, fan so I don't really understand what the players are doing but I do enjoy watching the emotions displayed by the players in almost any sport.

Brief update - I've had a look at the suggested crops which would indeed make for more dynamic pictures. However the posted images are already quite severe crops and I've encountered some image quality issues.

Their next home game is Saturday 19th ....
