Thread: Greetings, feeble Dirtlings

    Greetings, feeble Dirtlings

We have been observing your planet "Dirt" for many of your milli-days. Using a primitive visual light recording device, purchased from one of your turncoat agents (in the car park of the Hart Services area, M3, westbound).

Our minds (both of them) are not as yours. However, that is hoping to be of no barrier to achieving a state of peaceful co-operation.

I have to go now as matron is approaching . She may be hostile (ZAP : POW : Rat-a tat-tat) if she finds me using her office Laptop without permission (again !)

I hope to show you some pictures of the wonderous things on the other side of the BIG WALL another time ............

    'toggingly yours

'fraid not Katy. I still live on this planet, skewed views possibly, sceptical definitely, but not seeing little green men yet

Sounds like a deportee from planet POTN to me (and a Nikon user as Rob says) their one thread on Nikon cameras is pretty restrictive when you are toting two brains. So apart from buying dodgy gear in Hampshire we have no further information on this strange being. The reference to 'Matron' could mean he is either a youth custody intern or a public school boy. I suspect the later since the above is written in the style of a New Labour Party manifesto.

I think your conditioned craving for existential connectedness is making you troubled. Take two Anadin, lie down in a dark room, and think of the absolute void... or toads.

Now, come on, admit it. Only a MAD 'togger would think that was a good idea

Seriously folks (I say that so you know it's really me) I found this site through a technical link whilst preparing lecture notes on apertures and beam paths.

Over here...way across the pond, we call this "dry humor." In this case, I am not so sure we shouldn't go a step farther and speak more deftly as to it being arid, and dare I say...perhaps Saharan. However, it all seems to be in good fun and Rob seems to understand it well, but then he worked for British Telecommunications for 35 years and that would speak mountains as to his sense of humor....

All good fun to have a bit of banter.

But, at the risk of been seen as a curmudgeon, can I just remind us that we are an international site and that not everyone's first language is English (or slang versions thereof).

    The Code of Conduct states;
Posts should use standard English sentences. Try to avoid excessive use of txt/sms language, smilies, all capital letters ("SHOUTING") or ???? and !!!!! characters. Bear in mind we have many members for whom English is not their first language, so please also check your spelling and avoid excessive use of local vernacular. You can edit your contributions at any time by clicking on the "Edit Post" button at the bottom of your post (with additional options being available if you then click the "advanced" button)

See, Mods just get no respect around about here! I knew you'd be impressed, Steve.

Honestly - not wanting to prevent the good-natured (and irreverent) knock-abouts that go on (which, of course, I couldn't possibly take part in!). But we need to be mindful that many of our members are working in a second language on this site and may wonder if they're missing something important if unable to understand what's being written.

    Hello Toad

Risking the ire of Donald, which planet are you from?

Plain English translation: Where do you live? You obviously have a certain sense of humour which appeals to some of us maybe more than others (and I'm not suggesting that Scotsmen don't have a sense of humour - they must to eat haggis).

You mention lecture notes - are you a teacher or a student? And beam paths? Are you a physicist? Sorry for all the questions, you sound like an interesting new member. Tell me to mind my own business if you like.

    Hi Camellia

thank you for your kindly interest.
I am a technician involved in Cosmology and Astronomical Physics. (as an exile from a distant galaxy, it seemed to be an obvious choice )

I live near Portsmouth in Hampshire, UK.

Photography is my personal passion. In addition to that, I have every vice known to man (and a few known only to women)

I'm quite busy with work this week, but I hope to be able to upload some of my more recent images at the week-end.

    Delighted to make your acquaintance.

I have a good mate who lives down that way and understands this speak. Must be the water.

Tell us Toad do you have any good interplanetary images lurking in the background that matron has not discovered yet that you can show share with mere mortals?
