This whole thread reminds me of a line in a movie when an Amish elder tells Harrison Ford..."you be careful out there among the English."

I am most indignant at being lumped in with 'the English' - the Ashes are lost, the 5th Test is about to be lost and now we've lost our national identity. Maybe we should have flags to indicate our nationality below our avatars? Hmm, that wouldn't work, would it? We Aussies and Kiwis would be mixed together and the rest of the world would wonder why we have the Union Jack on our flags! Oh dear, another conundrum. I guess we are still colonials after all .

Having said that, I did hear a joke last night about sport that sort of makes up for the cricket. It was a sports quiz program: Which host nation did not win a gold medal at the Olympics? Cheeky answer: That'll be London 2012. (OK, no more sledging.)

My bad...I was so mistaken in my thinking...but it seemed to me the last time I was in your end of the world, everyone waved the Union Jack and hailed Brittannia at the top of their lungs...then again, that was probably 1968 or 69...I guess things have changed.
I was really directing this reply more to whoever this Toad person is, than all the "English," as I would also fit in that category (English speaking, that is) and I don't have a clue what's he talking about.

Give 'em their independence and what gratitude do you get....Kylie and Dame Edna oh and several barmen in Earls Court

"you be careful out there among the English."
I blame Mel Gibson for the bad PR in The Patriot. Wait..... how did an Australian get to fight for American Independence anyway? I was always wary of revisionist historians...we never seem to come out of things looking too good...oh well the price one pays for an Empire and the reminders you get when you lose it again...give it another thousand years and we will be as cuddly as the Romans
