The man who re-wrote Scottish history.

A lot of Braveheart was filmed just next door to where my dad farmed. Indeed, for about 5 weeks he (my dad) looked after the bullocks that you see (for about 5 seconds) pulling a cart. Because there were so many locals hired as 'extras' (all paid in cash) the pubs were awash with £50 notes. The Fort William area had never seen anything like it. After they all left, we broke down all the sets (the houses etc) and had firewood for years!

And what role (uncredited) did you play, Donald? Local clan chief with a castle full of wenches?

Well, they did apologise and said they already had Mel signed up, so couldn't really fire him. It was his film, after all.

Now where was I. This work thing is an unforgivable interruption. As yes....

    gay whales
Not in our lifetime or our grandchildren's (is that a grocers comma?) Torchwood was pure science fiction. Now the Welsh were used to the threat of imminent alien invasion, wacky religious sects, time travel (I am talking Aberystwyth here) and exploding cottages but when Harkness had a fling with Lanto there was a rising in the valleys....no that sounds all wrong. The place was awash with Brut aftershave and gruff voiced singing. (Donald just tip me a nod if I am stretching the use of the vernacular here). So gay whales... not a chance ,there have been more images of Charlotte Church skillfully tattooed onto male Welsh backsides than sheep in the valleys since that Torchwood episode

And I want to hear more of Steve's views on feminism. Maybe he's taken a course in gender studies?
You wouldn't understand. I am misunderstood and undervalued. I am just a sex object

Yes but the Rangers face paint was authentic enough and I would imagine that Willy Wallace had a lot in common with an Americanised Australian right-wing revisionist historian actor. Long Shanks was portrayed badly, he was a pussy cat really. All he wanted was was to enjoy the grouse season at Balmoral without hoards of ill clad Scotsman trampling all over his hydrangeas.....just like Duck Ed and Queenie really. Nothing changes.

I *like* Mel Gibson and his %100 percent accurate portrayal of British, especially English, conduct throughout history.
Indeed it makes you wonder what has been shaking his tree. Although in his defence I would not imagine that Australian and American teaching of history is too biased in our favour. It is a bit like us Brits with that French coach party that came over in 66. They were only trying to find a Little Chef and we make out it was some sort of invasion

Oh and an apology to Katy for turning here thread into a daytime chat show....I don't think she is speaking to me any more

    Probably because it is...

Wrong again. The last attempted invasion by the French was in 1797 at Carreg Wasted in Pembrokeshire (that's in Wales). http://www.online-holidays.net/tregynon/fishguard.php3

You dont suppose I believe all this rubbish I write do you? What I find more surprising is that America tried to invade us in 1778 at Whitehaven. John Paul Jones and a bloke from IKEA apparently. Whitehaven does not have an IKEA but it does have a McDonalds so I am guessing the Swede remembered he had left his flat pack musket on the wipeable work surface of his tastefully designed but competitively priced brig and turned back at the fish supper bar on the corner of Duke Street
