Well, now it's official, this site, and this thread in particular, has inspired me to go take a better bird picture!

Nice shots Sedali and David. Now we know why boats and rocks near shore are white.

Birds on the boat in a bird and boat competition! Very suspicious David...

    Interesting picture.

Best angle I could get due to position and fact it's now behind a fence. It's a class IX uboat (U534 to be precise) but you can only really see the conning tower properly. I cropped most the fence out and a fair amount of front is missing (it's been cut into pieces for exhibit) so tried to hide this fact. It's lit up blue of a night recently.

The lighting really makes this shot, but it's been captured and processed skillfully, well done

this one wasn't so deadly at zero tonnage sunk and zero ships damaged

I remember seeing this boat anchored off shore for about a year. The guy would just paddle in for whatever he needed to do on land... until a storm rolled through. One day she's anchored happy at see, two later she's beached and tattooed.

    Hi All,
I'm very new at this site. Spent yesterday looking around. I'm posting a shot I took in Aruba in October. The pelican was having a hard time trying to land. He usually crashed in the water, but this time he made a smooth landing on the rocks.

Hi Ed, welcome to the site. I can remember a few times having trouble trying to land back in the days I was flying aeroplanes - so the bird has my sympathies (at least birds never forget to lower the undercarriage!).

Your image is looking a bit soft on my screen - just wondering if you've done any sharpening on it?

No worries John. I could have sworn that I saw a thumbnail image associated with the post earlier on (but still not displaying), and then that seemed to disappear.

One last birdie shot from me, something to see the feathers on this time

The Great Chuck & Colin Bird / Boat Challenge!

A grey bird against a grey background, so not ideal.

Best viewed full size; please click into imageshack page twice to get it on its own, without the webpage.

Your thoughts on composition and PP (e.g. sharpening) sought.

    Thanks,

Enlarged, looks a bit "salt and peppered" on my screen .. is this due to sharpening?
An interesting image but a pity you had to crop his tail.
