It is all about contrast: sleek glass and steel vs. rough concrete, Art Deco vs. contemporary, straight lines and rectangular forms vs. curves and circles, buildings for humans vs. buildings for cars, warm colors vs. cold ones.

Reason: Moved title into header
I know this has some technical flaws. I can't seem to improve the sharpness and the snow falling created those white speckles, but I like this one. It is a late December photo, I will admit.

I've been so impressed with the photos posted in all these competitions that I feel a bit embarrassed to post one of my own. However, I am looking forward to some useful feedback. What I was trying to achieve here was some interesting textures, with the animal and the tree. Cheating a bit here as it was shot December 29th. It probably would have turned out much more interesting if I hadn't used the standard basic setting (Landscape mode) on my Canon EOS 60D. However, not yet knowing the camera that well, and not having much time to take the shot, this is what I got. Shutter speed 1/250, F-stop 5.6, ISO 640, focal length 200 mm. I did crop this one in Photoshop to make a tighter product.

Hi there, This is my first entry. I was sitting on the sand at the Brighton Beach in Melbourne. Had my camera with me. Trying to take some snaps. Suddenly this small boy comes out of the water, straight in front of me. Then he throws himself on the sand , just meters from me. Then me - happy snapping. Very candid pose. He was tired fighting the waves. Ta Kingshuk
