but it could go nature Abstracts, or Textures...or maybe something altogether new...but dangerous times in Photoshop exercising a 3-D layer comp...Lordy-Lordy, you could spend your life just playing in there.

I call this the 3D Nandina

Elise..I used the wall you said would make a good texture, the Nandina print and made a number of layers doing some freeform work and this, that and some other stuff.

The colors, texture, and nature motifs here remind me of paintings by many Southwestern artists. In particular, this looks like something that might be painted by an artist in Taos (though the sphere would probably be a piece of clay pottery). Good work, Chris, I like it!

I also like it, I think I like the contrasting textures with equaly contrasting color without it working against itself. The sphere looks almost to have an egglike smoothness.

I love the composition and the combination of the different textures with the delicate design on the sphere contrasting with the background. I am not sure about the way the background becomes lighter at the bottom of the image as this gives the eye three definite areas and I found it difficult to settle on one. The sphere would perhaps have greater impact if the background was lit equally throughout. Still everyone has their own view and it is still a great image.

The background part is described above in a note to Elise. Just a lot of images processed together. I was in the process of adding another layer with my Nandina plant and got to wondering what the 3D panels did in Photoshop and when I hit "Sphere," thiis orb appeared with the Nandina draped around it. I simply gave it a drop shadow, then layered the whole thing into one piece, framed and posted.
I have all of it in separate pieces, I think - or at least the images I used. It's really more one of those things you put together when you're bored or feeling whimsical and don't necessarily keep track of every step along the way. Mostly, I was practicing som eof the things I learned in the Kelby videos on CS5.
