ACCEPTING ENTRIES: Monochrome Mini Competition #97

This is a monochrome-themed competition that is open to all CiC members.

ENTERING. Add your MONOCHROME/B&W image in a new post below. Make sure to change your post title to a name for your picture (click the "Go Advanced" button). We request that there be just one entry per person, and that any tinted images utilize no more than one color. For help posting images, go here.

VOTING. When this competition reaches 10 entries, a poll will be automatically added and any member may then vote. After 3 days, voting ends and the winner is determined.

Once voting begins, a new competition will be automatically started and this process will repeat.

    Good luck!

Note: Please do not request comment/critique as it could be unfair to other entrants, but feel free to start a thread with the same image in one of the two image commentary forums.

Nicely captured...This one will inspire several of my dance/photography students to really work at making such a shot happen...would love a share of "how I did it."

    Re: On Reflection

thanks jiro, Chris it was basically took in a dance studio, shot with a nikon D200,nikkor 12-24mm superwide angle lens, the lighting was fluorescent strip lighting,
i wanted a jump that would include the reflection in the mirrors, the idea behind the wide angle was so i could crop to put dancer/reflection on seperate thirds to improve composition, plus i love the distortion from it,
i cannot find the original raw file at the mo but i presume i might have used the blur tool in PS to quieten down the distracting background, the lens was F4.5 and i chose the shutter speed of 1/10th to give a good deal of motion blur, i oversharpened the dress and hair in post production, the shot was handheld from below to give a greater sense of height to the jump, the dancer was a pro and truly amazing,
lastly i would add that its all trial and error, experimenting with slow shutter speeds gives some dramatic results and a lot of duff ones, hope this helps and if you want anymore info please dont hesitate to ask, cheers martyn
