Re: Square cropped portraits (SCPs) - please post them here
I'm most worried about people breaking into my car (It's happened 4 times in the last 5 years). I would never leave the gear in my car during the summer (100degF+) but in the winter (50-80def F) it would be ok.
It would be nice to have the camera around more often. I see a lot of things I'd like to shoot on my way to/from work.

Get a Canon G10. :)
I don't know any more if the last model is 10, 11 or 12, so fast they change the model...
I think you still can get a bargain for a 9.

I heard that the G11 is out soon - and LESS megapixels than the G10. Perhaps they've FINALLY learned that more pixels is NOT what we need!

Note that a car interior will easily heat up by 40degF in a single hour sitting in the sun even in the winter so if you are talking 100degF+ outside you need to be thinking 140degF+ after one hour in the sun and it continues to go up after that. And in the winter your 50-80 translate to 90-120 after an hour...
I have seen CD-Rs be destroyed by being (accidentally) left in the car in the summer (this was in Bulgaria where it gets very hot). Batteries could be damaged by extreme heat, too...
Having said that, here in England it is probably safe to have your camera gear in the car from an environmental perspective but I certainly would not leave anything in the car for fear of theft!
Best regards,
Anton

Fantastic. I like this. It was shot with your taddy bear wasn't it ? :)
Thanks, Antonio! He looks funny... :)
And yes, it was done with the beloved 70-200mm f/2.8!

I love it Alis! Great photo! :D
Wish there was some catchlight in his eyes though, nothing a little pp can't solve.

Thanks, KentDub! I guess when I look at it, that is one thing I always look for and it is not there. It was done with ambient light outside. No falsh used so I guess I have to get a little bit Scott Kelby on it and transplant the catchlight from another picture :)

That's what I call an almost good picture. :D:D
Seriously Colin, the only thing I don't like that much is the reflection on her glasses.
I like the monotone, the posture, the lighting - it has been a deliberated set - the crop and it's angle, using that wonderful soft box (eventually hold by a voice operated light stand) and the light meter and ...
It has been a nice studio work, Colin. Very nice indeed. :)
I have done something like this once and all the pictures - or almost - were a pure flop !
A very serious work of yours which I' m sure your client is appreciating.
Take care and keep the good images coming.

Hi Antonio,
Actually ...
... I was testing out my new Pocket Wizards - daughter was looking out the window - but the flashes didn't fire - so that was pretty much what was left!

I was deceived then in what concerns the set-up. :o
This is good example of how simple set-ups can be quite efficient, mainly when hazard comes to help us. :)
Now I can see what looks like the curtains on the glasses... Or I am mistaken again ?

Yes. I was shooting manual, having metered to get a correct exposure of the scene on the outside of the window, with the full flash picking up the difference required on the inside - so when the flash didn't fire I was left with the correct settings from the window light, but that was all. Another trick for these kinds of shots is to simply put a wireless flash outside to "fake" sunlight through a window.

Yes - they're curtains :)

Please can I have some C&C, I am still new to this and not at all used to making any of my shots public so I am sitting in a corner, shaking, waiting to see what people think.
