I like your edit as it is subtle / not overdone. Thanks!

Which technique/software did you use to brighten/whiten the eyes like that?

    Best regards,

    Anton

Yes I like it very much. She is the oldest and I have posted pictures of the others in other forums...

Would you share what software / technique you used to whiten/brighten the eyes?

    Best regards,

    Anton

The boy is in focus, the background is blurred, the choice of lens is correct, the colors are nice...

In my monitor the faces are a tad, very little tad if I may say so, too white. But I think this is a monitor problem.

What a progress since the beginning...

    Congratulations. Don't stop now.
Thanks a lot, Antonio, for the compliments!! I agree that the skin is a bit too white, I guess it is easy to fix it in photoshop.

    Thanks again!

This is perhaps a good lesson with regards to sharpening and resolution. When I looked at the image at it's default display size I can see quite distinctive frosting around the hair and I was thinking "uh oh - he's over-sharpened it", but when I click the bar for the expanded view I can see that it's just fine ...

... so a classic example here of how different sharpening is required for different image resolutions.

That is a fantastic shot! Well done!

In that photo she reminds me of one of the two female ABBA singers (forgot the name).

The G9 is a good camera if a good photographer is behind it.
Tell me one thing I would like to know: did you work the photo ?
Have you applied any blur in the background ?
OK. As I think your photo is rather yellow - in my computer that is - I have worked on it a bit.
Here I post the result. The gray hair is due to the artifacts generated by successive jpg saves I suppose.
If you wish I erase it quickly.
Health to the young lady and to her family.

Now looking at the preview before posting may be the canvas is too large ...

    Hello Anton
    I use Lightroom and Photoshop.
But to brighten the eyes I used the Adjustment Brush on LR.
I think the problem is not the program we are using but more how we are using it !
Are you on Mac ? I am !

    Hi Antonio,

Your version looks great. As no doubt Colin will testify this shot was actually taken with my 5D Mk2 using 50mm F1.8 at F2.8 ISO 400 and 1/1600 sec.

Looking at the before posting and what appears on the CiC site it does appear to have taken on a yellow cast. The only work done was to crop to square and sharpen, nothing else. The blur is as a result of the wide aperture.

What did you do to get your version?

    Peter

But it is normal to have such a shallow depth of field if you have shot with a full frame and such a lens.
I do like this result, this shallow DoF always attracted me.
I can also feel and see this when using the 5D at wide apertures. I understand that the work of the focusing point becomes of a crucial importance, I mean the precision of the focus point.
I don't have any - how shall I call it ? - special focusing screen - yes, that's it - on my 5D but I think it could be important to have one if shooting portraits, close ups or Architecture.

My version was - as usual - through Lightroom. Try it. You will see how intuitive it is with good results.
But ( a but ) if you have a Mac may be Aperture is a better option. I don't know.
LR is connected to Photoshop and works with it, interacting is great if you know how manipulate the images... I don't.

    Regards

Yes I am on a Mac and I use Lightroom 1 and Photoshop CS3.

My Lightroom does not have an adjustment brush.

I would need to upgrade to Lightroom 2 to get this feature...

    Best regards,

    Anton

Thanks, Colin. Now for me, another step is learning how much sharpening I need on top of the sharpening that looks good on the monitor if I want to print my pictures on matte finish paper or canvas. Believe it or not, I sometimes print these on canvas! Any general rule of thumb for that?

Not really - for me, capture sharping is pretty much a given (300/0.3) - content/creative sharpening I usually do with the image viewed full size on my screen, but I usually find that output sharpening is less important when your printing very large prints, so I don't get too excited about doing too much. On top of that, the texture of canvas pretty much makes high-frequency sharpening null and void.

What sizes are you printing your canvases?

    Comments welcome as always.

Personally, I believe I should have not applied that much sharpening to the skin of the hands.

    Thanks.

I think I the last one I did was 24 by 36 for my own office!

But I sometimes play with the smaller sizes for fun. I thought regardless of the size, the texture of the matte finish and canvas is the reason the pictures need special (extra?) sharpening.
