lol, the spot on her chin was a bit hard to remove without effecting her hair. (for me anyway). The stick is part of the banister on the stairs. I was thinking of removing it, but it didnt seem to detract too much from the picture as a whole, plus I thought the more I messed with the photo the more chance I had of ruining it

    I don't know Ashwin.
He was in the house and when he came out he was already with this mood.
May be he was upset for some reason. Sure he was...

Surely you could have got his mood back, by offering him some sweets

I understand now that this is not a lack of contrast but your own style.

The picture is very nice indeed
I like that light on top of her head.

Sorry, I thought I would try a little extra contrast.

Now there's something (for me; thankfully) consigned to the English history books - someone smoking at a bar/counter!
(all smoking is now confined to outdoor areas at such places)

    Hi William,

I think I would have either searched for a fractionally different angle, for a cleaner background, or cloned a few bits out in PP.

Are you shooting jpg or RAW? I ask because I think the model's arms look a bit blown, something avoidable with RAW.

In terms of the image's usefulness for promotional use, I see:
An empty bar, apart from someone quite close by the model's left arm
    A dirty ashtray
An empty, no wait - a glass with a clear drink in it
A shopping bag(?) in the background

Do you see where I am going? I think a few changes would give something better.

I like the composition and pose though, they're spot on.

    Cheers,

    Hi Antonio,

Another of my "must try better", high iso images

Square cropped portraits (SCPs) - Archive

EXIF: 1/60s f/8 at 56mm iso3200 - and I used the 'nasty' on camera flash, will I never learn?

It isn't even square (by 2 pixels), but hopefully I may be forgiven that small mis-demeanor

It also proves that even if (I think) I know how other peoples images can be improved, that is a long way from being able to do it oneself and here is the proof, for critique.

I am so so very sorry for posting this in a squared crop posting. Misread it as non-square crops.
    moderators I need your help.

No worries Sahil, easily done, I didn't even notice when I put mine up and commented on mine being slightly off (or I would have moved it without being asked)

    Moved it now, cheers,

    Hi Dave,

This is lame excuse, you easily could have taken another better picture and posted thereafter.

What was hurry for posting the picture which you yourself think is not good.

You have prevented us from seeing your good work

    Cheers,
I know what you mean. Sadly in the resizing the photo became a bit pixelated (sp?). This was taken when I was first starting out with portraits. I've learned to check the background... the whole scene really before hitting the shutter. That, and at the time I was shooting in jpg rather than RAW. I've since moved on to shooting in RAW exclusively. I appreciate the honest critique rather than "this is a great photo" or some other such nonsense.

The same in Portugal. Many coffee shops lost lots of clients because of this

    William, I like your picture.
William, this is not the usual portrait clean, well focused, terribly sharp (as I always do) but a portrait with something more. It pretends to show a person in an ambiance where one can relax, enjoy a cigarette (if you are a smoker) and have a drink, distracted from the world around you.
Of course you can show exactly the same thing with a well focused, sharp, bla bla image, but this is different and pleasing.

The "burned" arms are not exactly a problem neither the blur involving the image.
As Dave suggests better pour some - dark - liquid on that glass.

What I don't like is the background with that person on her left side.
If you re-shoot, look for a better background and get also a little smoke out of that cigarette.
Thank you for posting in this great thread.

I almost forgot: Next time make a square crop. Please, OK ?
