The conjunction of favourable circumstances

It's all very well to talk about the right gear, and the right technique. But sometimes it's just the right circumstances coming together at the right time. I got back from a walk along the coast this afternoon, rushing to get to the harbour where I was parked just after sunset. It was nearly high tide. Nice scene, but it lacked some foreground interest. But then two fishermen came along and set up their gear. 'Are we in your way' one of them shouted. 'Don't worry about it' I replied... snap, snap, snap.

Very nice Rob. Liking the cool->warm transition, the textures and the overall composition. Lovely. One of the fishermen looks like he moved during the exposure but not too drastic an effect overall. I live about as far away from the sea as you can get in France and must say I really miss it. Actually looking forward to global warming and the rise of the oceans to bring the coast closer, already made the 'Seaview Cottage' name plaque for the house and everything. Then I can go out and take shots like this

Thanks Paul. Yes he is moving - he was reeling in at the time, I think. I thought it added some action to the shot. The waves are slightly blurred too. I couldn't move away from the sea now - I've gotten so used to it.

Good stuff Rob. I love the colours and the silhouette of the fishermen.

I've noticed when watching documentaries about photographers that they have incredible patience to get 'the shot'. Piet told us on this forum about his hide for bird watching. There are just some things that can't be rushed and some things that are right place, right time. Food for thought...

This one really appeals to me. It's the combination of the cool calming blues, the gentle lines and then the texture of the water in the foreground. You had a really good day with the camera!

Actually, that's where my conjunction of favourable circumstances ended. I got home and realized I was out of beer! I prefer #2 as well. It's quite subtle.
