Steve I want to ask you something and that is: post one image at a time, please :)
It gives me more concentration on one shot only and I don't have to be in a hush to drop some lines about all of them. Please. :) OK ?
What stroke me at once in the first one:
- Composition fine but lack of DoF at the end of the image. This is important and this is the reason I don't like it that much. Sorry Steve.:)
On the other way - and still on this image - please "darken" a bit the right side of the picture where that water and that sky are. And - to finish this one - I think there is too much area on the top of the image. Try to get around this issue making a more tight crop at say 4/3.
- Too tight the image. Be a little more generous to the right and try to get someone on the field. A cow will do :D Move also a little bit more on the road itself, to the right. Good DoF.
- Get yourself down, on your knees :D:D Get me those flowers invading the screen with no road on the far right. Fill the image with flowers taking advantage of the arc - what's the English for that ? - which is just above the flowers like a basket.
Be aware of the sky - the background after all is important not only in portraiture but everywhere...
Try one with wide aperture focusing on the foreground flowers and another on the background flowers with the same aperture. Repeat with the smallest aperture you can hold to get everything in focus or get a tripod for the job. Consult a DoF table and get the right aperture for the job. ;)

:D Can't get on my knees anymore because I'm disabled and won't be able to get up, and these are 17mm which means f7.1 red diffraction limited 2.3 metres and f6.4 2.5 metres f4 3.8 metres and f2.8 too soft at extreme edges. cheers for that.

The cross looks crooked but if you put a grid on it the horizontal of the cross is straight and I wanted the height of 17mm so using thirds meant a lot of for ground.

No cows anywhere I'm afraid and ev span around 10 ev means either loss of detail or blowing some highlights, photography not easy eh. :D

Thank you Steve for your words. In fact for you it is more difficult because you don't have - unfortunately - the freedom of movement people usually have.
Let's however, turn this upside down.
Take advantage of the level you are or of the level you are constrained to. I don't know how, but think a bit about it. What can you have that others don't ? What other points of view can you show us that we usually don't see ?
I have no answer for that now but we can think about it for a moment, can't we ? :)

What kind of view can you "impose" to us, so called "normals" ? :)

Actually standing position, before January this year I would have been on my knees, in fact I took this one day before I was in hospital having a five hour heart operation because the surgeon said I was going to die about NOW. :D

It was difficult and painful but I've learn-ed not to show it, and for that reason I don't take chances, walking around with 11Kg of equipment is enough risk, I had 99% LAD blockage but still have 60-70% RCA blockage that could cause problems under stress.

:D You wouldn't believe how fit I was, I for fun was paid to dance House when I was younger, maybe I put that wrong but I was paid and was extremely fit, but now I'm careful. :)

It is riddled with CA; it is rubbish. I can do better than that although in the small sizes it is very hard to see faults but I'm now thinking in 6' x 4' terms. :)

Steve, I was going to suggest a small, lightweight folding stool with a canvas seat so you could sit and take lower photos without hurting your knees. That was BEFORE I read about your 11 kg of camera gear. I am thinking that you need your very own photographic assistant.

Re 4x6... that reminds me that I didn't finish reading the aspect ratio thread...

That's alright Myra, a tripod is heavy and although only 2Kg adds a lot to the weight because either I carry it separately or tie it to the back of my backpack. Mostly I don't need a tripod with IS or VC, but if I've got one then I can get down on my knees since it is only the getting up that is a strain, when trying to be careful with the camera. For instance I was on my knees to photograph a bench butt I knew I could use the bench to help me to get up.
Really it is only the camera I'm worried I might cause damage to whilst trying to get up, so leaving the camera on a tripod which seems to attract to much attention or an assistant that doesn't fiddle with it.
Then the time I paid the bus fare for someone to a railway museum to help me walk a mile through an overgrown steep path, all that happened was that he walked off with the tripod doing his own thing and I would have been better off on my own.
So I plan photo's, and if I need a tripod I go another day to do just that, I can kneel just have to be careful how I get up. cheers :)

I like your picture Steve because it involves cold, death, naked trees, winter but the Sun is rising announcing better days and hope. :)
The star from the Sun is great. And behind a church to add mysticism. That is good. You have probably used a tripod and closed as much as possible...:rolleyes:
Try to take any possible advantage of your state Steve. If you can't knee you can shoot with - what's the English for that ??? - that kind of periscope which lets you see through the lens at 90 degrees angle. YES: angle viewfinder. That's it ! Angle viewfinder.:)
Then you will be able to take pictures from originals points.

Do you remember camping; waking too tired to appreciate the special nature of first light but alert later to the freshness of the whole thing and feeling a part of it. That is what this picture is all about.

You could use maybe a multiply layer to reduce haze and then try to take green out of the sky, but I like it as it is.

Too kind Steve. Too kind ... In my monitor I can't see any green in the sky. And it was done with a multiply layer, yes. :)

Thank you Steve (I've checked and the name is the right one :)) for posting these pictures. :)
It looks like the second image is a version of the first or vice-versa with two different "treatments". In both I didn't quite understand how big the rolls are until I saw the other two images where the scale is more present :)
The clouds dramatize the scene. :)

Just what is it about bales? One of the first pictures I took when we got the original Nikon Coolpix 4500, many moons ago, was of bales. And they continue to populate my hard drive to this day. :) I like these, Steve and it makes me long for summer. Had enough of cold wind and rain for now, thanks very much. :(

That's a nice set of bales you got there, Steve! And Kit you're right. I keep looking at them, but have managed to resist going overboard as of yet. This is one from the Pyrenees, France in July 2009. A version of it has been on this site before, which benefitted greatly from the advice given by members on here.
