Thank you for posting Peter.
Thank you for posting Peter.
Cheers Antonio; the tops of the trees make it difficult for me to change the sky, but thanks anyway. Your work is very nice.
Thank you Tim.
Thank you for posting Jeroen
What is in there ? Lettuces ? Flowers most probably ...
Punakaiki Seascape, New Zealand, May 2010
Taken as a speculative shot more or less directly into the sun, I altered the white balance by lowering the colour temperature to the blue end. The result surprised me (pleasantly) and I adjusted the composition by judicious cropping and sharpening to give what you see.
Cheers
David
Nice place David and nice picture
Thank you for posting
Those are 2 very nice pictures Steve...
Which new camera is it ? Neither the 10 nor the 50 but the ... ?
Thank you for posting.

My first impression was of a 1960s James Bond type movie. Expected to see Sean Connery pop his head in at the edge.
It's something about the colour. Must be similar to that achieved in the film used to make those movies?
Speculative perhaps, but an excellent outcome. It's the bright, fresh-air feel it generates that makes me feel good about it
It is the 50D with its super self cleaning sensor that has one large and two smaller dust bunnies, I've only changed the lens twice and don't know if you can clean it in the same way as the 10D which is relatively easy to clean, and why should I have to, so soon. Cheers for your comments Antonio, it is these that make me go out and do it again. I can't seem to get sharp flowers though and my computer keeps choking on 29MByte raw files.
You know Steve, that is the reason I don't want to change my cameras (20D and 5D old model) for now.
I rather change the computer, before I move into another camera.
I have been looking at the 7D but hey it's a lot of money in this crisis time.
However, I am going to change my Mac to another one: the huge 27" with the fastest processor available and 8 MB of RAM which I will use with a 19" monitor giving me a large working space.
And this is before the VAT changes in the 1.st June 2010 in this country.
I read that you use Topaz. I have tried it and it takes some time to make the previews what is a bore.
Anyway I would like to suggest you to shoot again - oh boy !!! - that landscape trying to fill the image with a larger amount of trees as foreground and using a small aperture.
But with the branches out of focus if you please.
Try to compose better, more carefully with the hole castle or a large part of it inside the frame. I will be waiting here to see that. (This is joking, OK ?)
When I was previewing this post I re-saw your image and I have yet another suggestion:
Try some place where you can enhance the perspective. Don't shoot flat. The bridge for example is too flat. Go near it and try to capture the perspective with the house / palace at the same time.
This is important to have in mind: try not to shoot flat, get perspectives, strong ones with the foreground out of focus to give depth to the image.
There you have a work to do.
Thanks for commenting, António. Actually, the colours are exactly as you can see (although I did a slight adjustment in WB, as it was looking more "red") . You may notice that almost all my pictures from the same place bear the same tones. I think that it is due to the lamps chosen to illuminate this particular part of Oporto. On the other bank of the river (Gaia, near the cellars) the colour is a bit different, not so warm.
Anyway, you must come here to see it in person.....
