Well Mark it is a nice picture :)
Perhaps you could have shown us a bit more of the sky or a bit more of the water (yes, too dark I know...). Was it with a long exposure ? You didn't close the aperture that much did you ? It would have been easy to make a long exposure since you had where to sit your camera... How long was it ? :)

The setting was 30sec at f/13 ISO 200.
It was indeed dark that time. Actually we were aiming for the sunset that day on that photowalk, but too bad it was so cloudy and the sunset never gave us a chance. So we agreed to wait for the night and shot some citylight. It was still cloudy that night.
I think the setting was optimum setting. If I went smaller aperture at 30 sec, it will be darker. Unless I go bulb. I don't have remote trigger.

Re: "Shorncliffe Sunrise"
This image was taken the same morning as the previous one, but well after sunrise. The image is of the historic Shorncliffe Pier. I took it with my Canon 5D Mk II & Canon 17-40 f4L lens.

Very nice Edwin. :) The colors and composition are just fine.
You could probably correct the vertical of the first lamp but it is not very important...
You can even go and re shoot under a bolder angle. Which ? I don't want to tell you :) Just go and create a special shot from an unusual point of view.
Bang ! I gave you a job for tomorrow. :p
How's the weather ? Fine ? OK. Then shoot in the early morning or late evening as the Sun goes down.
Thank you for posting here Edwin :)

Having introduced myself, it seems like I should dive in with a picture and invite comment. Here are the two I'm most pleased with from the recent snow. The sky is over exposed in the second and I didn't get any extras exposed for the sky or take any filters. Both are hand held, the first while walking the second having just ridden my bike over the ice.

Wind blown snow.

Tyre track in the ice.
Re: Landscapes - Please post them here
The first one has great potential - I say great because I think if some of the top is cropped off it becomes great.
I know that we hate to "waste" some of what we've captured, but this technique is very often useful in making a composition stronger (simpler often equates to stronger). Using the scroll button on the right of the screen, I "cut off" down to and including the black fold on the right side. This amounts to cropping about 1/6th from the top.
To my mind's eye, the upper 1/6th is busy and distracting. When this is removed, the strong diagonal of the shadow gains prominence, and it leads the eye into the fabulous texture of the snow.
I'm going to be more critical of the second image - I can't find a subject - is it the sun, the posts, the snow, or the track in the snow? This might be worth a re-shoot though - concentrate on the track - and get closer to accentuate the interesting pattern.
One thing I learned from shooting flower macros (I probably spent too much time though) is that concentrating on the essential is more effective than trying to include everything.

In the photo, Tyre track in the snow, if you had allowed the sun to go behind the post it would have done two things: first, it would have diffused its brightness and it becoming the focal point instead of the tire (spelled correctly, I might add :p) track because by diffusing that light, the track ridges would have had a more defined shadow and I suspect, two, a deeper tinge of yellow, both of which would have directed the eye up the hill in a more pronounced way.
I am only kidding with the spelling thing because I told a friend about this site on the telephone and he kept telling me the link wouldn't work. When I spelled it out, he yelled back, "well, no wonder, they spelled Color wrong."

As we all know, tyre and colour are correct English in many countries.:D
