    Pat, it's a stunning picture!
I like the wide DOF as well as the composition! the details in the background make the difference!

Absolutely stunning; I would have got it all wrong and composed it by positioning myself so that the sun is on a third and the stone was pointing at it, if that were possible.

Which is one of the resons I wanted to get away from rules.

    Re: Breakwater

Nicola and Steve, thank you very much for your comments they are appreciated.I could have used the rule of thirds with regard to the sun but the image would not be the way I wanted it,so for this one the rule of thirds went out with the tide.
    Best Wishes, Pat

Good work Pat and thank you for posting here

The surface of the water and the angle of the rocks the sea and mountains at the far end with the composition you used makes this image interesting. You have used a bold angle to take the picture. That is a very strong point of the picture.

Perhaps I would have framed a bit more of sky and would place the Sun a bit more to the left but this is just me with my mania of being too critical. Don't take me seriously on this point

I can see that it is a nice image, that is what it is

    Hi Antonio,
Many thanks for your comments which are (as always) very constructive and intuitive. Here is an image with the same foreground subject but from a different angle and no sun burst.
    Best Wishes ... Pat

Thank you again Pat for posting here
I really like this one better
But - oh I wrote but - perhaps you could correct the barrel distortion from your image. Well, I know it is a tab, a trifle, and that it is not important in the general perception.
I also like the fact that you don't have any foot steps on the sand.

These places are always very pleasant to walk by. A bit cold may be but...

    Thank you again Pat

Herewith a photo I shot in the Republic of Ireland 3 or 4 years ago.
Now please, feel free to criticize. Fire at ease.
I am sorry if I will not be able to make any corrections because this jpg photo is the one I have left after - stupidly - having erase - I said erased yes - the back-up disk.

    Re: Breakwater

Thank's again Antonio for your reply,
I like your image but feel it could do with a slight rotation to the right as the water in the middle ground seems to be at a slant,or it could be me needing new glasses.
Do you remember where in Ireland the image was taken.
    Best Wishes ... Pat.

    Hello, all.

This was a quick shot of a nasty storm moving over the ridge. I am standing in our side yard shooting west. I shot manual so I could keep the shutter speed higher.

This is the Chimmney tops of the Smokey mountains in Tenn. The sunrise and a late night storm left a heavy fog in the valleys.

It looks fine even though I can see some small differences at the left guy in red and the others.
Have you shot manual with the same setting in all the pictures ?

It looks like you are flying in a helicopter or on a plain

Do you shoot raw ? Can you get more detail from the mountains at the far end ?

Gorgeous place. I think the air is very "light" and fresh.

Your image looks kind of blurred. I am sure that the strong reflection is responsable for such thing.

    Re: Landscapes

Thanks Antonio, I hiked to a bare spot where i had a better view. I do shoot in raw but still unsure about post processing. Im reading the tutorials but when I fix a problem I cause another. The thick fog in the air really decreases contrast of the mountains.

Thank you for the trouble Randy
    Indeed it looks better
With time and slowly - with work and patience - we get to understand how to make the best out of our photos.
I am not the best one to guide you but try something very easy:
Duplicate layer and on the above one change the blending mode to Multiply. Adjust at will the density.
Learn how to create a mask for the foreground and give a try.
    Have a nice sunday
