Please refer #771 by Antonio, and you will get reply to your query...
For Level option, press CTRL + L
1st slider ( Far left side ) is for Shadow portion
2nd ( Middle slider ) is for Mid Tone
3rd ( Far right side ) slider is for High light
You can play with it, move slowly right or left to get desired tonal effect

Still if you find it difficulty, you may come back with your query

I cropped the picture, but not exactly square and I cut both the left and right side in order to "balance" the dark rocks and the withe wave. In addition, using curve tool on photoshop I brighted a bit the rocks in the foreground... I hope you will appreciate this work.. here the rusult:

    Radu
your point of view is very nice and interesting! For sure your crop helps focusing on waves!
even if, in my opinion your post processing is too aggressive, the actual colours of the scene weren't so saturated, and I prefer don't magnify so much the red channel, it brings a "warm" dominant that fights vs the cold january mistral (the subject of the scene).
but it's only my own opinion..
    many thanks Radu

    waves

here follows a picture I'm quite proud of (is this sentence correct in english?? sorry if it isn't)
but I think this picture is lack of a subject in foreground, the rocks are inadequate, but I'm not sure to have an improvement cutting them off.
what's your opinion? all critics are welcome!
    thanks

    Hi Nicola,

I think you're right about the rocks not being prominent enough.

I had a serious go at dealing with that, plus an overall local contrast enhencement (LCE)

    Landscapes - Archive

I think I should have done a bit better on the masking of the rocks, but see what you think - if you hit F11 to make browser full screen, click the image into its Lytebox, then fick between the two.

Yesterday and before dressing my pajama I saw the idea of Ashwin and I could remember that I should have told you that you could use the blending modes to get a better picture.
I thought that in the morning I would write you about this.
    And here I am.
    What have I done ?
    1. Saved your image in tif
    2. Opened your image in CS5 as smart object (OK no reason for that, just a mania)
    3. Duplicate layer and change the blending mode to what you can see in the picture herewith for future adjustments of opacity and fill.
    Landscapes - Archive
    4. Then I adjusted the brightness and the contrast as you can see herewith
    Landscapes - Archive
However, I used the button to get this adjustment only at the layer bellow.
    5. Saved the image as tif and imported it in LR
    6. New adjustments in sharpness, graduated filter, as you can see herewith again
    Landscapes - Archive
and here is the final image. I re-cropped by the way at 3/5
    Landscapes - Archive

    What do you think ?
Yes mate, you did a good job on my image, thanks. I unfortunately haven't got Photoshop CS5, so do the best with the tools I've got. I had another little play with my image & think I've come up with something a little more pleasing to the eye. Hope it meets with everyones approval.Landscapes - Archive
    Cheers....Edwin.

    Hi,
The question is which is the subject? The waves,of course. So the background mountains have to disapear!(lasso as You see, transform _ free transform_push the top button up,then erase tool all these meant only 7min).Then one could think how to better the subject.Giving the same kind of orange hue as sky is?No.Giving the complementary colour? Yes.(pushing foreground colour you find 197_170_122 the complementary hue could be 122_170_197 now click ok,create a new layer with blending mode_colour then with brush tool_ opacity 10% paint over the waves as your taste says.
    Landscapes - Archive
The image could be this after increasing the waves
    Landscapes - Archive
The foreground rock is good to compare the waves dimension
    Thank You for understanding

    one more

    good evening!
I'm still working on the previous pictures I showed you, but I keep disturbing you with another of my own.
this time is a black and withe shot during a sunny day on october in a road of Siena
About it, I think that a shot of flash to light the foreground could have been useful...
    what are you notes?
    thanks a lot
    cheers

I wouldn't erase/clone that boat but move it to the left lik e I have very quickly done here
    Landscapes - Archive
Maybe even a little more to the left... I don't know exactly...
Must a landscape always be a "landscape" ? Let's break the rules.

I don't think so. A flash wouldn't have the power you would need.
I would say precisely the contrary: darken the shadows, take advantage of the silhouettes, from the shapes and forms and the magnificent light.
If you have the chance shoot over and over the very same spot until you get a goo - really good - image. Darken the shadows, enlighten the lights Contrast.
Try a day with fog, if any with wider angle or further away.

Well here goes! This is a farm yard track in The Gers in South West France taken in October. I wanted to capture the early morning sun, the mist and silhouette the trees in the foreground with the path leading the eye towards the horizon. It was one of a series that I took of the area and probably the one that I felt captured the atmosphere best. It was an early attempt with my Nikon D90 f6.3 ISO 200 at 1/200th shot in JPEG before I discovered RAW. Comments welcome about how I could have used more appropriate settings, how the composition could have been improved and how the image could be edited. I am learning how to use Photoshop Elements 9 at the moment but at a very elementary stage so try not to be too technical!
