    "Shorncliffe Sunrise"

Another of my Shorncliffe Pano's. It was taken two days ago, when can you believe, it had actually stopped raining? The sunrise itself wasn't too spectacular, but the colours of the sky & reflections in the water were. I hope you all like it?

Well Mark it is a nice picture
Perhaps you could have shown us a bit more of the sky or a bit more of the water (yes, too dark I know...). Was it with a long exposure ? You didn't close the aperture that much did you ? It would have been easy to make a long exposure since you had where to sit your camera... How long was it ?
    -
The setting was 30sec at f/13 ISO 200.

It was indeed dark that time. Actually we were aiming for the sunset that day on that photowalk, but too bad it was so cloudy and the sunset never gave us a chance. So we agreed to wait for the night and shot some citylight. It was still cloudy that night.

I think the setting was optimum setting. If I went smaller aperture at 30 sec, it will be darker. Unless I go bulb. I don't have remote trigger.

The black and white picture is a nice one, however I would have not placed the people in there to capture the hole ambiance of the waves and - apparently - bad weather. On the other hand you make me think if they are crazy enough to go and surf in such conditions and so near the rocks.
The other one is certainly much to your taste in terms of colors. It looks a happy picture

It's the first time I've tried using PP and cropped like this, and I think it kind of worked.
This is the canal bridge near where I live, I have taken a few photos of it but I'm sore and ill and can't be bothered going anywhere else to take pictures...
    C&C if'n you please?

You have here a nice image David. Perhaps the horizon is a bit tilted, isn't it ?

This image was taken the same morning as the previous one, but well after sunrise. The image is of the historic Shorncliffe Pier. I took it with my Canon 5D Mk II & Canon 17-40 f4L lens.

Very nice Edwin. The colors and composition are just fine.
You could probably correct the vertical of the first lamp but it is not very important...
You can even go and re shoot under a bolder angle. Which ? I don't want to tell you Just go and create a special shot from an unusual point of view.
Bang ! I gave you a job for tomorrow.
How's the weather ? Fine ? OK. Then shoot in the early morning or late evening as the Sun goes down.

I was going to make the same comment... a little 1 to 1.5 degree clockwise rotation would help keep the eye directed toward the bridge and not at the offset horizon. If you are using Photoshop, go to Image and scroll down to "Rotate Canvas" and sub-scroll to "Arbitrary" which will give you the option of Clockwise or Counter Clockwise and you can dial in whatever number you want starting with .1 +/- as needed.
I like the way the raod leads the eye to the bridge and how the wall leads the eye back out of the frame...it is anice composition save the horizon thing which is a very easy fix...of course, you'll have to re-crop the image. I took the liberty of adjusting both images just to show you the difference in look. On the longer one, the bridge leading to a "farm?" I also cloned out the buildings way off in the distance. This helped the crop considerably. However, since I did not have the original, I couldn't allow for the loss of foreground. Always leave about a 20% margin in the shot for just such a need.
I think in the second one, you should crop the first post on the left side of the frame as it does tilt slightly because of the wideness of the lens.

The first one is the usual trend. I like it. The person could be a little further, more to the left near the road crossing perhaps.
I like the light coming from the houses and the general mood of the scene: cold and unconfortable.
You could also clone the little branch at the top right.
The second one is more like a common image and not from you.
And however, it looks like it was shot on the same walk a few minutes apart from the other and towards the other direction.
Here you could - and I am sure you can but didn't want to - lighten up the foreground.

Thank you for posting here again Vandenberg

It is a nice picture Sahil.
However, I suppose the house at the top left could be cloned. And just near the river is that a hut ?

Having introduced myself, it seems like I should dive in with a picture and invite comment. Here are the two I'm most pleased with from the recent snow. The sky is over exposed in the second and I didn't get any extras exposed for the sky or take any filters. Both are hand held, the first while walking the second having just ridden my bike over the ice.

Re: Landscapes - Please post them here

The first one has great potential - I say great because I think if some of the top is cropped off it becomes great.

I know that we hate to "waste" some of what we've captured, but this technique is very often useful in making a composition stronger (simpler often equates to stronger). Using the scroll button on the right of the screen, I "cut off" down to and including the black fold on the right side. This amounts to cropping about 1/6th from the top.

To my mind's eye, the upper 1/6th is busy and distracting. When this is removed, the strong diagonal of the shadow gains prominence, and it leads the eye into the fabulous texture of the snow.

I'm going to be more critical of the second image - I can't find a subject - is it the sun, the posts, the snow, or the track in the snow? This might be worth a re-shoot though - concentrate on the track - and get closer to accentuate the interesting pattern.

One thing I learned from shooting flower macros (I probably spent too much time though) is that concentrating on the essential is more effective than trying to include everything.

In the photo, Tyre track in the snow, if you had allowed the sun to go behind the post it would have done two things: first, it would have diffused its brightness and it becoming the focal point instead of the tire (spelled correctly, I might add ) track because by diffusing that light, the track ridges would have had a more defined shadow and I suspect, two, a deeper tinge of yellow, both of which would have directed the eye up the hill in a more pronounced way.
I am only kidding with the spelling thing because I told a friend about this site on the telephone and he kept telling me the link wouldn't work. When I spelled it out, he yelled back, "well, no wonder, they spelled Color wrong."

As we all know, tyre and colour are correct English in many countries.
