Tilt shift lens how to use them

I have loooked on line for tutorials on how to use my new canon tilt shift 24mm lens. I see how the Lens can produce minitures but I am more interested in using the lens for a larger depth of field.

There is another thread on this forum about these lenses wherein I posted a description of an easy method of getting the tilt angle (rather than using charts).

Thank you Glenn and hansm, they really help. I can do both the large dof on landscapes and even mastered the miniatures by tilting up. Besides doing panoramic shots what other shots can you do with the shift part of the tilt-shift lens. Thanks again

One of the reasons I acquired the TS 24 was to do buildings (generally I'm thinking of historic ones). I've practised a bit and the lens works very well. When using the shift for a building, I shift so that it looks right to my eye. I don't know of any other method.
