    Hello Peter
    Thank you for posting

The person looking into one direction and the dog - supposed to be her pet - looking into the other is great.

Is there any reason to cut the her hat ?

    Antonio,
Thanks for asking about the hat. I have no particular reason why I cropped it. I probably woke up on the wrong side of the bed that day.

    Antonio,
I can correct the problem about waking on the wrong side of the bed. Bed's against the wall.

As for the cropped picture, I'm afraid, it's how I shot it. Sorry.

    Hi Antonio,

An interesting image of which I immediately thought; "why has Antonio left the wood in shot?"

Usually being one to crop, or clone out, extraneous content where-ever possible myself

However, it does give a feeling of depth to the picture, making it far more 3 dimensional, the flowers alone are too close to the subject to give the same effect.

Or is it just because it was there and cropping wouldn't work and cloning would take forever?

    Regards,

    Hello Dave.
I think you are referring to that side walk at the top left.

I don't know how to clone it quickly.

I saw some videos on the web about cloning efficiently in CS but I tried with bad results.
I must try harder that's what it is.

This was shot with the 20D and the teddy bear.

    Thank you for commenting Dave

No, no, - the thing in foreground bottom left, in front of the flowers.

    A few random tips for cloning;
    - frequently change brush size
    - frequently change sample point (sensibly)
    - frequently alter view magnification factor (don't try and do it full screen)
    - work with a feathered edge brush (but not too wide)
    - work with opacity set to 30 - 50% and use multiple strokes to build up to 100% as needed
    - work along edges/transitions first, then fill in either side
    - replicate patterns (e.g. brickwork or roof tiles) realistically
    - start large and do majority, then zoom in and use smaller brush size to get closer to things you don't want to change
    - be aware that some finely detailed surfaces, especially if sharp in shot (e.g. gravel, grass, etc.) need a hard and sharp edged cloning technique, so you may need to adjust the above advice temporarily, but do watch out for "pattern repeats" and remove these by even more frequent, but careful, re-sampling of donor surface.

    Hope that helps,

Thank you Dave and thank you Ash.

Dave: What Ash erased/cloned is stone, red stone. OK.
I will try to do what you described but not now as I can't afford the time to.

Ash: I like that but I would do it a more like triangle shaped form. Thankfully we have different points of view what makes us richer changing them here.

On the other hand I have observed that if we also clone the side walk at the end (top left) the "Z" shadow on the grass will be too apparent ending in a bad composition.
Well in fact, I have to go there again to make a second or third shot with her placed under the shadow of the building receiving the reflected light from the harsh environment at that moment of the day.
I can even use a talking assistant and use some kind of helping light, like a reflector or a flash.

And yes, I am planning a trip to India for October 2010 with some 14 fellows just for shooting.
I have already started the process with inquiries, questions, prices and so forth.
British Airway flights ! Dave, want to come ?

Delhi, Agra, Fathepur Sikri, Jaipur, Samode, Benares, not necessarily by that order of course...

Details soon in private if you wish or even on the net but in Portuguese. Sorry.
Not expensive, not expensive. The British pound is very solid and above the Euro these days, isn't it ?
    Lots of fun and cooperation.
A good time to spend among Portuguese fellow photographers.

You were not expecting this provocation were you Dave ?

    Nope, I wasn't

If I were (or even felt) ten years younger, and had the budget, it would be very tempting my friend. A very kind offer, thank you. I'll cogitate on it some.

A work colleague took a honeymoon there a few years ago and when I saw his pictures, India looked interesting.

    Ashwin,

That's a very good job you have done there, I think despite your protestations you're only just getting back into PP skills, you are far more advanced than I. Anymore tips to add to mine?

    Best regards,

    Very good picture Antonio.
I hope you do not mind but let me add my (non-solicited) 5 cents. I just cropped the stone wall totally out on the left and made the magenta back wall less colorful and more blurry, and faded the flowers just a little. But I'm afraid my proportions and frame make it almost look like a Greek Karyatide (spelling?).

By the way keep us posted about the details of that possible trip.
