    Sharp and nice picture Alis.

Have you ever experimented/tried Topaz Adjust, Topaz Detail or any of their products ?
    Thanks, Antonio!

About Topaz, give me a reason to use it. In general, I never liked these preset/made easy editing softwares. May be I am don't know how to use them. There are lots of them, I have tried Capital One and LightZone and also these plug-ins from Topaz briefly but did not find it that useful. I assume people who process a lot of pictures like them?

    Hello Alis
I have been trying Topaz for the last week and I find it interesting but I rarely use the presets.
These plug-ins offer a more specif and narrowed areas of work of Photoshop which can be an advantage.
Instead of working with Photoshop we work with a couple of commands that make our work easier in certain areas and then... we back in Photoshop to continue editing the way we used to
I have worked in certain pictures with great advantage while on others... Or is it just me ?
    Regards

    Re: Anniversary

    Hi Ali,

    Very good shot as usual, but two things I don't understand are;
    a) the title (one year of riding a bike perhaps?)
    b) why include so much of the trees and sky above (it places too much emphasis on the large tree behind)

A square crop from bottom up would probably work better in my humble opinion.
Other than that, as I say, excellent record of your son and a good image too.

    Cheers,

    Thanks, Dave!

The title I will change, I did not set it, I guess this is a problem with the forum software (granted this thread is unusual since we are not really replying to anything we are just adding a new post, in this Antonionian Mega-thread!). It belongs to the Anniversary picture of the couple posted by Peter a while back, but when we reply, it chooses one of the titles automatically (still have not sorted out how it does it and what the rule is but it does). I usually go and change it in Advance mode, if I notice. My son actually switched to this new bike a few weeks ago from a tricycle, so it is not the anniversary yet

And about the cropping, I completely agree, too much left around the picture (I remember: the name of the game is to fill the frame ). But I guess I got too excited by the white blossoms on the big tree in the background. It is usual for you guys in UK, but here in Boston, seeing weather changes happen on time is exciting; last year this time we had snow!

I think it takes it from whichever post's "Reply" button you hit, since they all look the same and you're not hitting "Reply with Quote", the assumption is they all behave the same, but they don't
To ensure it uses the thread title, use one of the big "+ Reply to Thread" buttons on left hand side at top or bottom of page.

    Ooops,
I didn't even notice that was blossom there, now you say, it's obvious - silly me.

I am not sure that is true. I always hit that button on top. I think however, it takes the title from whatever post is at the bottom of the current page. It was "Anniversary" before and now it is "Cook". Try it yourself

But anyway, I think we just need to check the title on Advanced mode and change it accordingly.

By jove, you're right ol' chap, well I do declare!

Actually, I think that might be a (minor) bug, I'll report it.

    Alis' images

Oh come on Alis, why do you post always so nice pictures ?
Again "At the coffee shop" the same quality as in "Arnold Arboretum".

In "At the coffee shop" picture the area on the right is rather over exposed but that is not important as the image has so much impact when we look at the young man's face. He was interested in something far away...

Thank you Alis for that "Antonionian Mega-thread"
Indeed this very thread is going to be one year old soon.

Not to mention the other which original started on the 22.ed October 2009.

Thanks to the cooperation of you people they both still hang on...

And speaking of anniversary look at this picture shot under poor light conditions.
The guy was only 4 hours old.

Thanks, Antonio! He was looking at people sitting at another table in front of him.

I told him to watch my beloved Gitzo tripod and he is actually holding it tight

Nice picture of the 4 hour old little one. Is he/she your granddaughter? If yes, congratulations!

    At the daycare

I was not sure how to crop this busy picture, the line goes on and it is hard to decide where to put the cropping. They are getting ready to go to the playground:

PS: I am using PS CS5 and it is much faster and very cool! Have not explored much of it yet though

    Hi Ali,

For me it doesn't work like this, you had to tell us verbally what was happening, the picture didn't tell the story - it might if door to playground were included.

So here's my crop, clone and blur to extract an image from the original:
NON Square Cropped Portraits - (nSCP's) - Archive

I cropped to the three people doing something interesting, simplified the background by very careful crop and clone* then added a bit of blur to the stuff through the window.

    * removed a green pot from table and rucksack straps above your sons head - given more time, you might want to tackle the other bodies behind the chap on the right somehow.

OK, you're under starters orders, how quick can you do this in CS5 with the full size pic?
    (only kidding)

    Cheers,

    Cheers,
Oh Good lord, Dave. Love your POV. I noticed the three kids in the centre. If cropped from there, it would give totally different story. I don't mean to hurt your feelings Ali. Just found it a little funny. Things kids do. Your son is just too adorable.

Thanks, Dave! Nice job. Interesting crop!

CS5 is actually the perfect software to get rid of the unnecessary stuff in this picture
