I think that the door at the right makes part of the composition or the image would look too flat.
Well, this is just my opinion as you may understand.

When I was at the visit I came into the room where I was - the dinning room - and when I look at the right the man was saying that dishes were coming from there, the kitchen.
I saw him and I asked if I could take a picture. He told me it was OK. I was so near the door that I could move it with my right arm, which I did to see the result.
And I did not like it. The only light in the room was coming from this door and from a small window at my back.
There was some 15 - say 17 - people waiting for me and looking at the guy. I had to work fast.
I opened the door completely - the light outside was terribly harsh - and I told him to look at me relaxing. I took 4 or 5 pictures, I have chosen this one and worked on it with LR and CS.
I show you my original shot.

Yes he looks like a strong guy, indeed.
I like the background (as usual, my comments are repetitive) but the picture lacks brightness and contrast.

Is he your relative ?

I actually noticed the lack of contrast. It was a bright cloudy day, right before a very severe thunderstorm. Other pictures I took of other friends look much better.

He is one of my friends. Not a relative though

Hello Richard Thank you for posting again in this thread.

Yes, you master those flashes Richard.
But as before - a photo of a couple in a car - I dare say you have overpowered your flash on the right side.
I wouldn't know how to do this kind of work but I think that you main light should be the left one and the right one for a fill but not so strong.

How have you done that background ? Did you cut the girl and the road from an image and paste it on another one ? Nice effect

As before i still could'nt totaly understand in controlling the strobes. May be a few more mistakes and practice i would hopefully better understan the light. This is actually a single source light. The source is at the back right portion with a ynflash and reflected a round reflector on the left side )

I shot this at about twilight making the rest of the frame generally dark except for the part where the strobe is aimed and reflected. A small tweak on the curve on photoshopped and a little masking created the black background.
The swirling lights were originaly bokeh light textures that i got from the net. I just had i blurred in a swirling motion in photoshop to create the effect of the swirling lights, The rest were a little masking to clean the overlapping lights .

Ali, I usually really like your portraits, but this one just doesn't do it for me. He really does look as though he's gonna topple over...But that said, if I turn my face over to the left, you have another winner. He really is a very photogenic child.

Hi Antonio/Ashwin/Colin,

I agree about the rotation. I shot this with the beloved Canon 85mm f/1.2 L (f/1.2 @ 1/350s) and to make sure I have his face (eye) in focus, I had to put the active focus point on his face quickly and for that I had to rotate the camera and that is why the shot is rotated. It is not like he was actually reading the book, it just happened a for a few seconds and I had to record it

Then when I processed it thought I should rotate it but did not lilke the full 90 degree at the time and anything less would have cut through his body. Now that I look at Ashwin's version, I agree it looks better!
