Portraits aren't my thang, but Ilike this one...you done well. Bet you are freezing your buns off in Nashville, tonight. It's a cold one all across the southeast tonight...Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Finally got our white Christmas after 13 years! and yes i'm not like the weather right now.... I'm ready for spring!
Hi Chris,
I think the pose, the expression, the background are all right. However, the picture has all the problems you can have with a harsh light source: Burned out cheeks and forehead (in this case hair covering the forehead) and harsh shadows under the chin, etc. You will not get a break with that until you get a nice diffuser or a way to diffuse your light (bouncing it off something, or using the natural light (the type of setting Colin describes in his tutorial). Other than this, technically, as I said, it is done very nicely in terms of sharpness and crop, etc.
On my monitor, the colors are a bit off, specially the skin tone, and for that you need the WB card, although what I see might be due to my monitor (or yours) or just her natural skin tone.
Cheers!
Thanks for comments Ali! Your comments helps me improve my portraiture!
Here's another one with the default exposure(which is 0) from the raw file. I bumped up the exposure on the previous image.
Another thing i need to point out though is, when i compared the photo on Photoshop and after I uploaded it to Flickr(or any other web host), it gives me 2 different tones. PS is a little vibrant and alive than the online image. I'm not sure what i'm doing wrong to come up with this.
That might be it! I am sure I saw my camera set to Adobe RBG one time but I need to double check it. I guess i need to set it to sRBG right?
Found this while Googling this topic. sRGB Adobe RGB 1998

Yes, sRGB! On your camera and, if you shoot RAW, in the ACR set up if you have a Canon. Not sure about other cameras.
If the setting is changed to Adobe RGB in your camera, and if it is a Canon, the numbering changes from IMG_#### to _MG_####, I assume to let you know if that was done inadvertently.
Hi Antonio,
I feel weird doing this... I like the picture you have posted of this lovely woman, BUT that brooch is way too distracting. Thats the only thing I focus at, when I look at the image...
Content-wise this is very good, Sahil! I like his expression and sort of the whole composition although you may be better off getting rid of a little bit of the image to his right.
In terms of exposure, I guess it will look much better if you come down on exposure specially on parts of the face and the background. But it is very sharp and colors look spot on.
I agree with Ali.
Here is my interpretation of this photo under too harsh light.
What have I done ?
Converted to black and white in LR with adjustment of the luminance at will. Then, exported to CS where I applied a blur with mask. Back to LR a made a vignetting carefully.
I am a lier The vignetting is a preset of mines
@ Ali
I have adjusted the photo in colour, then I looked at it and said to myself: "Huummm, this is not working in colour. I'll try in black and white." And so I did. I exported to CS made some blur adjustments with a mask over her face.
I was forgetting to say that I applied a filter on it.
The light was soft at Borubudur that day, rather cloudy and she was in the shadows with a clear sky right in front.
Thank you Ali
