I hate it when these things are a draw. I think your is much more artistic than mine. How did you process it? It looks very dark and grainy to me (which suits the subject)

    Re: Rabbit

Seeing the Gypsy Dancer, my first thought is he shot using a extremely high ISO which would give it that extraordinary grain, and then using Dark Sepia as a toner (if he is using Silver Efex). I have been doing some experimenting with more of the ISO in low light to try to emulate this real nice gritty graininess. However, I am hoping Martyn will enlighten us a little to his technique.

I still love how well you get those deep, shiny blacks which I think made Lucas work so well. I fondly remember my Lucas Flamethrowers I had on my Bug-Eye Sprite.

    Re: Rabbit

hehe i thought yours would have won outright Rob, the gypsy dancer was shot in a studio using only the modelling lights (couldnt get the right blur from the flashes), the "model" was a blonde haired lady photographer who kindly posed for me in a black wig (which kept falling off) and a flamenco dress we hired,a small amount of grain was added in PP, lots of work went into the PP to make her stand out from the BG,this particular version was done in duotone (maybe even tritone) then desaturated slightly, the face wasnt supposed to be dirty but my limited ps skills couldnt fix it,i must have a go at redoing the picture at some stage, cheers martyn

Congratulations to both Rob and Martyn. Martyn I like the composition. I like the serious look on the dancers
face. I can see you have done a lot of work trying to separate her from the background outlining her shape.
A continuous background tungsten light would have made the difference. Nevertheless I like it.

Rob would you share your setup of Lucas with us and do you use a polarising filter?

    Regards

    Nasseem

It was shot outdoors at a vintage car fair. I used a polarizer to reduce the glare from the sky. You stuill get the light reflections, but they are muted, and they do make quite interesting patterns.
