I know this problem ... it only happens to TinyPic hosted images for some UK based viewers, the effect is random.

Even if the picture doesn't display, the IMG tags are still there, so it gets put into Replies, even after the reply is posted, it may, or may not, become visible to the 'replyer'

Many thanks Dave. At least it isn't me, just that I live in the wrong place. It is an infuriating problem and renders a good number of postings unintelligable. Sometimes you feel like some sort of pariah on the list and at one point I thought of unsubscribing, but there is so much worth while in CIC the temptation didn't last long.

What I don't quite understand is that Donald doesn't appear to have the problem. Is this an example of the Scots superiority of the rest of us in UK or are they up to something? (No offence, I love them all really)

I don't know why it only affects some of us (4 for definite now) and not all members.
I can say;
it happens with all 5 browsers I have (FF, IE, Chrome, Safari and Flock)
for me, I had it, then it went away for a few weeks and now it has returned
People with XP or Windows 7 are affected
There is no commonality in ISP, Firewall, etc. that we can see.
One of the others can VPN to work servers (US based?) and not be affected, but is if he uses straight connection from UK, or England as it seems to be (Berkshire, Essex, Hampshire and now Cambridgeshire)

Dave - I replied to your post but it didn't appear on the thread and I don't want you to think I had just ignored it. The problem seems to be getting worse but there isn't anything one can to except put up with it, it seems. I suppose I could post a reply to the original posting with quotes and get at it that way but that probably wouldn't be a popular workaround and from what you say the images might even then not appear on my monitor. Without the images the majority of comments loose a lot and often all their interest and I really feel the loss. Sad, but that's life I guess.
