50 nifty pics with nifty 50 on my D50

    Hey gang,

I thought I start a self challenge for myself this year.
The goal is to create 50 unique pictures with one lens (in this case I picked the nifty 50).

Just wondering if any of you guys would join me in this self torture adventure?

I reckon I might come close - I recently bought a $2700 EF85/F1.2L lens to offset the bordom of the "off season" in landscape (for me) - so I might have to shoot 50 portraits to pay for it!

can't wait to see the pics from you!
I'm sure the lens will pay for itself in no time.

It's nice, but I can't use the speed because the DoF is practically non existant wide-open. Definately needs less sharpening that my L-zooms - colour and contrast are excellent (less PP required).

Only formal portrait so far is #2 daughter ...

    Raycer,

I'm definitely up for this! What a coincidence as I've decided to shoot the Chinese New years' parade with my 50mm today! I,m gonna try and get a few candids. It might be beyond me as it's always mad. Good luck to us all!

    P.S. Nice portrait Colin.

As soon as my Nikkormat is out of the shop, I can give it a try... just, mind defining, "Unique?"

We number our daughters, do we? Just don't let them find out!

Nikkormat? wow, haven't heard that in a long time
"Unique" would be anything that people would not normally do.

    Would this count?

I'm currently reading Real World Image Sharpening and as an exercise I wanted a really contrasty high frequency image to work on, i.e. noise removal, content sharpen, creative sharpen and then sharpen for output, which in this case was a 10 inch wide print (this is just a flickr copy) I'm quite pleased as to the final result as before I (as I think a lot of us do) just sharpened at the end of the workflow. Anyway this is number one of my Fifty with the Nifty.

Thanks To be honest, I'm pretty much a traditionalist when it comes to portraiture - I like soft & even diffused lighting. For this shot I used the classic twin lights at 45 deg to the subject (up high), firing backwards into a pair of black/silver umbrellas. Manual metering with hand-help lightmeter.

    Very attractive pic, Chelseablue.
I'm learning the sharpening workflow and more and more, I begin to perceive instantly how much difference sharpening makes.. this photo is a perfect example! I'd like to know the settings used to take the photo please

btw, what camera/lens you used? I'm trying to keep track of people's equipment around the forum

    Zephyrize,

My camera & kit is in my signature.

I've got Colin to thank for this by the way as it was he who set me on the right lines!

Raycer, your image in the Nikon beats everything thread (your daughter) is top mate!
