It looks like you had a great day out. Thanks for sharing.
I do quite a bit of work in forest and a couple of quick points that might help next time you visit. You always see the floor of the forest is much darker than the canopy so a grad grey filter works really well here and also a polariser cuts the glare on the leaves and gives a more saturated look.

Thanks for the input.
I've always wondered why my camera takes crap shots under the canopy! I'm sure filters as you've suggested would help a ton. Lighting conditions are important too I guess, but there never seems to be a lot of light under the trees.
