    Selling Photos

I don't know if this is the correct section to post this question. If it is not, please move it.

I was contacted by someone that was interested in buying 3 copies of a photo of mine. The photo is cropped and edited for 5x5. How do you price a print like that?

    Thank you.

    Hi Mary,

    What pixel dimensions is it?

How (or who) were you going to print it?

    and framing?

    Re: Selling Photos

Thanks for responding, Dave. It is cropped for 5inx5in and is 1658 pixels x 1658 pixels and 331.6 pixels per inch. ( this is the info from the 'image size' in PS CS5. No framing. The only shop I have near me is a Ritz. I have never sold any prints. A friend of a friend saw this photo and approached me about it.

    Re: Selling Photos

If this is something you are doing for a friend and she is only buying copies and not the rigths to the image I would suggest something like $15 - 20 per print (unframed). I know guys who go to a lot of horse events and this is what they sell images of around that size for.

You can get a good guide by looking on e-Bay and seeing what others are charging for images this size and of similar quality.

Having said that I am in Australia and you might be able to charge $100,000 in the USA.

    Re: Selling Photos

The space is there if you can sell one Paul. I was looking at Ansel Adams web site the other day and you can buy a 38"x 30" replica print for $130. That's pretty much what we do with multiple prints we sell. That sort of puts some perspective on the value of print sales when we do not have a buyer willing to pay $1.0m for the rights to the print with ony one print made, etc, etc, which is what happened to Peter Lik recently.
