I'm going to try running a weekly team challenge, and see how it goes.

    The rules are simple:

    1. Post an image that you've taken in the last 28 Days here, and mention somewhere whether you're a Canon / Nikon / Sony / Other team member.
    ----
Recognising the state of the market and with due respect to the integrity of all members (not to mention brand loyalty!) it seems to me that bias may be an issue here.
How about uploads excluding camera details, leading to votes on image only?
Winning brands would no doubt be publicly celebrated by contributors after the announcement
My Minolta/Sony mates and I might otherwise be forced to devise a way to fudge a few more votes to get a meaningful count???
Of course experienced members probably know most others' brand of choice so they have a leading edge anyway.

    Hi Richard,

Thanks for your input - I can see exactly where you're coming from.

It's an idea that well worth trying - from my point of view, I did it the way I did as a bit of a motivator (I know how one "team" would hate to see the other getting all the "glory"), and the reason I limited the decision to only the top 3 images was so that it levelled the playing field a bit more, with the hope that (with people excluded from voting on their own entry) they would do the honourable thing and give credit where credit is due (as I one used to say to my bank manager!), regardless of brand.

Lets get through this weeks challenge and see how it goes eh?

PS: Only 6 entries so far ... come on you lot - time is running out!

Gosh, would hate to have to award it to the Nikon team by default! By the way, I'm sure the chap in the blue jacket is actually using a Nikon camera - he probably just put a Canon strap on it to look cool!

    The rules are simple:

    2. At the end of the week (probably Monday morning in my time zone) I'll lock the thread - and then people have 24 hours to tell me in a PM what their first, second, and third choices are.

That'd be about 6a.m. in Brissy? Sunday evening for lots of folk?

Super image... it really is a pity about the "hand" though..
Can't blame the camera (brand) though, can we?

When posting comments long after the subject post e.g. mine for image#12' is there a way to install the comment post with others adjacent to the subject post?

Yes - NZ is UTC +13 at the moment, so I figures Sunday night my time would probably not work well for the majority. Best idea is probably just to get the entries in earlier rather than later

Like a tree structure you mean? I can see how that works in some cases but it might be too disjointed here with the style of threads. Expandable/static tree structure would mean they don't flow like "conversations" as colin observed (in another other thread) and it seems the suited style. Also it could get messy and a lot of new content would be hard to read without searching through the whole thread, and when it comes to 1 post addressing multiple previous comments it would be hard to do.

Might be worth posting in site improvements bit of the board to see what solutions people can think of. Sorry but all I can think is perhaps the quote feature which will not disjoint or break the flow but will show your comment in the intended context and so on. You've probably already considered that though but I say it just in case.

Unfortunately not - the software works strictly on a date/timestamp basis. Normally it works quite well - it's just a little "unfortunate" that we have a few threads running here that are catering for a variety of image from a variety of people.

If a thread clearly changes direction then Sean or I can pick out the selected posts and move them to a new thread, but I tend to set quite a reasonably high threshold for doing it as it's a wee bit of work to tidy up the loose ends, and it probably gets a few people following the thread a bit lost.

We already have that - just change the Display Mode from Linear to Threaded at the top of the thread. Prefer linear myself though.

    Team: CANON

Virtually NO post processing (capture sharpening and that was about it) - reminds me why I love this lens! (EF70-200 F2.8L IS USM) (1/100th @ F2.8 @ ISO 400) ...

I wouldn't get too worried - just trying to bolster entries!

No He's put it on for the same reason I use Canon brand camera bags. To stop his Nikon stuff getting, erm, Nikked?

Just a thought folks, what would you think of voting publicly via a thread, instead of via PM? (so all can see that it's above board?).

Looks as though this shoot was fun? That's probably how it was meant to look? Certainly a lively spontaneous bit of cheek there. Only thing is I can't say there's not a hair out of place!
Should score for your team, I'd reckon PP.

this was kind of a fun self-assignment. A lot better picture than my monitor lizard from that thread "This Way". I'm still hunting for a "Rusty Roof" by the way.

    http://peterphun.com/blog/2009/01/28...der-portraits/

BTW, like most of you I troll various photography forums but I've yet to come across another like CIC.

No airs, no high brow expectations.Just a bunch of guys getting together sharing pictures. If there's gals here, I apologize, you know I mean everyone.

Richard R, this was something I shot for free but I made a point that I needed model releases in exchange. It was sort of fun but I felt like I was just the technician pushing a button at times.

Colin, thanks for noticing the shadow detail. But who knows what it looks like when I print it.
    C'mon Canon!
