Is there some info somewhere about preferred sizes for posting images? After browsing around I find the images to be much smaller than I am used to.

Hello and welcome. Good to have you here on CiC.
No matter what size you post at, the site resizes to 700px on the longest edge. So, you may want to resize down to this so that you retain full control of the appearance. Actually, I've always posted at 1024 and allowed the site to take it down from there - and have never had any problems.
Donald,
Thanks for the quick reply.
Why so small?
My monitor is 128 dpi; so 700px is les than 5½".
A 700px × 700px image consumes about 15% of my screen.
In this day and age, are photographers still using SVGA screens?
Hi Winston,
If you click an image that has been saved bigger, it will open larger in a Lytebox - how large obviously depends on how large it was posted, but also things like how big (pixel wise) your screen is and whether the web browser is full screen or not - F11 toggles that on/off (as I expect you know).
