They both work but I would be tempted to consider turning the first one into a portrait orientation by cropping the right side a bit.

These are beautiful, Wendy. The second one is just stunning. I really like the luminous quality of the -- what are they? seed pods? -- in the first one; is there a way to heighten that a bit?

thanks everyone. Geoff I think you are right. I can crop a bit off the right and have the pods going right up the line of the left third. I think the comp is better that way and I also get rid of the brush bottom right. Thanks

Elise, I've already brought the luminance up quite a bit on the pods. The light on them was the reason I even bothered working on this one. I'm not sure if I can do any more with it without having the colours start to seperate like they have in the background, but I will try.

#2 is really stunning, I'm wondering if with #1 the crop that has been suggested would 'by default' brighten/heighten the seed pods as there would be now no other sharp/bright area competing with them....?

The light in #1 is lovely - I agree with the crop suggestion to remove some distractions.

#2 - great colour and I like the silhouettes. The tiny branches create wonderful texture in the photo.

Thanks everyone: I've tried the crop for number 1 and also tweaked levels to try and get the pods to stand out more. I may have overdone it now (that happens a lot ) Looking at it now I'm not so sure I like the crop. I think it needs the context - not sure - maybe it is a bit too abstract now??? What do you think?

This works very well I think Wendy - I would be pleased to have spotted it - the others as 'sentinels' in the background make the crop/composition still work to my eye.
