Canon 5D Mk II versus 4x5 medium format

The Phase 1 looks like a good camera until I saw the price; I'm interested in how come a humble 5D MK II gets compared with a medium format when I thought if you was going to compare medium format with anything it would be a 1Ds which is weatherproof. When is the 1Ds IV out since it has got to be cheaper than a phase 1?

I read somewhere that anti-aliasing filters reduce resolution by about 10% and that these can be professionally removed.

Hi Steve the 5D2 and 1Ds3 have very similar sensors, and so are capable of potentially taking very similar images; as with many cameras though, it's not just about the sensor - the 1Ds3 eats the 5D2 alive for things like robustness, AF performance, firmware options, metering, dual media etc etc etc. No confidential eMails from Canon's marketing team about the 1Ds4 yet (that I can tell you about anyway)

But why would you want to remove it; it's just not an issue with approx 100% of real-world photography, and hasn't been for many years. Favourite quote of the month: "Too many photographers ruin their images trying to save the pixels".

A book in which you might be interested is Photographic Multishot Techniques by Juergen and Ranier Gulbins.

Chapter Three contains information on Super Resolution or "pixel packing" techniques which is the technique in which you might be most interested. Additionally, this book has sections on Pano Stitching, High Dynamic Range and Focus Stacking, and Enhancing Microcontrast techniques.
