Hello, everyone. Working with this composite has taught me a lot about post picture processing, which, in itself is a true art form. You think you are fiddling with one little component, and it affects the look of the entire picture. Thank you all for your guidance. Antonio, thank you for mentoring me through this experience. I did step back and look at the last posting. The paint stripe across the top was evident. I am almost thinking of going back and rebuilding this composite from scratch, as I have a better feeling for how changing each component affects the whole. It should not take me quite as long.....

Marie, I think you're getting closer with each step. I would reduce the opacity on the man's hand, or brush some of it away, and maybe just a little bit on the woman's hand.

    Keep going! It's worth it.

Just for continuity's sake, I would angle the writing at the bottom right to fit the angle of the rest of the writing. In an image as complicated as this, every part not in total sync with the rest of the image tends to stand out much more boldly than if sitting alone. I would also reduce or opacity reduce the siding on the right side hand, back toward the wrist...everything gets a little "muddy" there. I sorta-kinda, maybe think that if you rotated the siding to run parallel with the writing...hmmmmm, maybe less contradicting movement throughout the image.

    Antonio,

Correct it may help give bounce to the text and flow into the hands.

I like the photo great idea and well photographed.

Link is for a cllage I have done based on The Swan and uses a displacement map on the Music layer only

Thank you, all for your contributions! I am very grateful, and I have learnt so much from everyone.

David, I love what you have done! I tried to emulate it.

Chris, I did another version with the wood texture canted. I couldn't figure out how to angle the text about my mom and dad, so I took it out. I may put it back in, not sure.

Antonio and David, Elements has a displacement prompt, but it asked for a file containing a displacement map. I didn't understand how to make one, so instead, I used the distort option. It still seems to flow over the hands?

Elise, I decreased opacity on the hands, and more text shows in places.

    C&C anyone?

I keep thinking that there is a too much bright large area on the left side of the image. This area was better in post 21.
The problem with the stripes was transfered to this area.
Clone or hide the green jewellery on your mother's whist at the far right. It is too strong.
    Good luck
Hope The "usual" others will tell you something.

Viewing and re-viewing I like the first one. It's darker an I like dark images generally speaking.
On the other hand, the first one is not very "far away" from the last one.
Anyway, I ,ade this sketch for you. I wanted to crop and frame but I am sorry I did not
Not the quality of your image of course... I had to align two images...
Be aware of that black bottom corner which I cloned and only exists in the first image

Thanks all for your guidance as I worked with this composite.

I entered this version in an art show and won first place in the photography division. This picture printed with more contrast, so the area in the top left was actually more brown. I signed my name in the lower left blank spot, so it did not stay empty.

    Hi, Elise!

Only a first, a second, and 2 honorable mentions were awarded in each division of this show. Yes there was a monetary award for placing. I also received a cash prize for this second image, which received honorable mention. Not much, but enough to buy a virtual cake (Chris's idea) to share with my friends here. LOL

Keep it simple. The hands carry the message. Get rid of the writing-all of it.
