tbob intro
A brief biography and intro as a new member.
I live in a small town (11000 people) in northern British Columbia, Canada situated on the northwestern tip of the prairies. I am a veterinarian by profession and a photographer by inclination and as a way of going into a mindset where the moment matters more than the big picture (or in my case the 12 megapixel). I am more of doodler than an artist. My interests in photography are centred mainly on macro and landscape. People are only of interest if they share my genes or the genes of my wife, although I must admit I have, probably, 1,000,000 pictures of my grandchildren.
My current obsession is to document the abandoned farmsteads on the nearby prairie. This area was settled in the 1920's to the 1960's by land grant of 160 acres of wilderness if you promised to clear it and farm. (Ironically enough when my family emigrated to Canada from London, England in 1956 my dad was offered this deal as a veteran of the British Army. My mom and dad thought long and hard but conceded that a plumber and a librarian from Battersea would be biting off more than they could chew it they went for it. So where do I end up? Probably 100 km from where I would have been fifty years ago. Fate? Destiny? Stupidity?) Most of these people failed and their original homes and barns are abandoned, the original land grants now integrated into huge farms of 2500 acres or more. Given my family history it is sort of bittersweet to document these places and think of the hard work, dreams and sweat now lost to the vagaries of life and time.
Maybe my old new home in 1956

Trevor
Welcome to CiC from me as well.
What maginificent subject matter you've got there in that project. You should keep in mind the possibilities for B & W images as well. Old, weathered wood can be a marvellous candidate for B & W conversion.
Yep, I had all the paperwork for the £10 passage to Australia completed in 1970 ... but never did send it off. I wonder ..........!

Re: tbob intro
Hi Trevor, your picture is great. I too live in Northern British Columbia and our family owns 2 cats and 1 Akita so our local veterinarian is one of our favorite people. There are a lot of great areas to photograph in this area and one of the best is the Peace River Valley. Unfortunately, the valley is slated to be flooded, but we still have time to enjoy and document the valley. When I look at my pictures I remember the day and what a good time I had taking the pictures. I am looking forward to seeing more of your pictures.
