This first work is from one of my beginning students...he just turned 16

But he has a vision quite unlike that of your average student photographer...at any age. Their assignment was "Self-Portrait."

Thanks for sharing CHris. You might get delighted when you see your students return such creative pieces.

Some of these kids...I dunno...I'd like to think I am that great of a teacher, but when a kid like Nathan comes stumbling along, I have to rethink myself...this stuff is his through and through. Not sure where he got his inspiration, but am so glad he found it!

You're just humble, Chris. I think you did a very good job working with your students. Good job, teacher!

Yep Chris, don't sell your teaching ability short. A lesser teacher may not have brang this out of this kid. You won't find many that has the imagination and drive as this one, but remember there is always credit for the nurture even if it is in his nature. I am impressed with you both.

I totally get where Chris is coming from with Nathan's work. This kind of creativity and vision can not be taught. However, the end product can be enhanced by teaching. Self portrait No 4 is outstanding.

I would be very proud of this student Chris. Just remind yourself that your influence has helped him to develop his inherent creativity.

It's the creative vision and imagination, as well as the ability to turn it into a finished product that is quite wonderful.

Whole program. Four levels of B&W using 35mm to 4x5, 2 levels of Alternative processes -salt, cyanotype, albumen, gum and a few others, - three levels of digital using Nikon D40's (they're old, but still do pretty well), four levels of TV production - primarily in the documentary film style, and when given the chance, I can teach 4 levels of graphic design.
