    Wendy,

I love your birds in the snow series. Whewre are you in Canada?? I lived there for a year in Ottawa doing postdoctoral research. I bet
you cant wait for Spring!! I remember I missed it because I slept the weekend.

May I ask how you meter for the snow? Do you use a light meter, a grey card or just your cameras light meter with an extra stop or two?? Keep those beautiful birds coming.

I have tried something similar myself, but with nothing near the result you captured!

    Congratulations!

Thanks Nasseem. I am in Southern Ontario not too far from Toronto

LOL, yes that's the Canadian spring. We have another saying here. If you don't like the weather, just wait 5 minutes, it will change.

I keep it pretty simple Nasseem. I let the camera do most of the work. I shoot Aperture priority Matrix metering, centre weighted, take a test shot of something dark against the snow adjust EV until I get the blinkies and then I wait for an hour or so until the birds come back. Oh, I take test shots periodically while I'm waiting to adjust for the changing light. Also, most of my shots are taken on dull overcast days, which to my eye seems to work pretty good in the winter. I'm practising in the sunlight, but a lot goes wrong in the sun (for me) shadows, nasty blown highlights (as opposed to blown highlights that don't bother me on a dull day) and it's much harder to dial in the right exposure. I suppose it's a matter of taste (or expertise) but I like the even lighting of an overcast day. Sometimes I use the on camera flash with negative EV just to fill in the shadows on the subject a bit (if I can get close enough for it to make a difference)

    Wendy
