Yet another stupid question - Lightroom autoloads when attaching ext hard drive

I think I did'nt explain my problem correctly. After I snap a picture an hour glass appears in the LCD for about two seconds after the shot. I think I have increased the size of the file in my camera

I did'nt explain properly. After I snap a picture there is an hour glass on my Lcd for about 2 seconds. I can't take another picture until it clears.

I'm going to guess it is noise reduction then. I think if I turn that to high on my camera things slow down a bit.

Thank you I will check that out I was changing all kinds of settings to try to learn a litle bit. Thank you.

Changing the file type to RAW would also make it take longer.

or saving both RAW and jpg.
But I wouldn't expect this to cause you to have to wait after one photo?

Larry, when you're waiting the few seconds, are you doing longer exposures with "long exposure noise reduction" turned on? With that type of NR (not high iso type), what the camera's doing is taking a second "dark frame" (i.e., an exposure at the same settings with the shutter closed), to use as a sample to find the noise in your image and remove it. So, when you have that setting turned on, it always takes twice as long as your shutter speed setting for the image to be processed in the camera.

You can change Lightroom's parameters to the opening dialogue in the preferences page. Auto opening used to drive me nuts, so I disabled it. Frankly, I have grown to despise lightroom as I cannot seem to get it to put the photos where I want them...way too much convolutions to open, sort and place. Bridge does the same thing, only faster and far more efficiently.
