Re: family pets
Hi Douglas,
Not sure whether you wanted C&C on these, but rather than leave the thread un replied to for even longer, here goes ...
#1 Nice and sharp, with good 'pose', but could do with a minor crop and the background isn't ideal, but could be worse.
You have avoided the usual 'pet eye' problem despite using on camera flash.
#2 could do with being focused on the eyes, again the background isn't great. Compositionally, a crop to remove a little off th right hand side would be preferred.
#3 This may have a colour cast and both background and foreground have distracting patterns.
More on the plus side, you have got a reasonable size subject in the frame of all three, and on the cats, you have got down to their level, which always separates the casual snap from the better efforts like these. Exposure is pretty good on all of them too.
Tips;
Always focus on the eyes
Try to keep the backgrounds distant and simple
Ideally, also keep the backgrounds the same colour temperature as the subject to avoid colour cast problems
Try to position the animal looking 'into' the image (as we view it); eyes to left of centre line should look right and eyes to the right of the centre line should be looking left.
Good luck,

They're beautiful pets! Your dog resembles a lab/shepherd mix we had, Mocha. I miss Mocha. Gotta love pets!

What a beautiful dog! I am sorry for your loss. I do not have enough experience to give technical advice-but had to comment as a dog lover. Mine is Maddie-above.

Quincy & Sunshine Enjoying the Sunset
Michelle - thank you for the kind words. We miss him every day. Fortunately we also have his nephew Quincy. The picture below is of the two of them that I took in Capital Reef Utah.
Your Maddie is beautiful & looks like she loves to play.

What a beautiful pose. They really are soaking in that sun! Incredible shot!
My shutter speed always has to be very high for shots of Maddie!

Re: Sunshine
Thank you CRL for taking the time to view the images & thank you for the nice comments. To me Sunshine was one of the most beautiful & photogenic dogs I've ever seen (but then I am biased).
