    Sunset Farewell Spit

After travelling about 150km to get to the west coast of the upper South Island we found this wonderful beach (Wharariki). It was totally unspoilt with seal pups playing in the tidal pools. I managed to get a few shots of the sunset across the dunes, facing into a howling southerly. Used a 1/4CTO gel on my Speedlite to expose the foreground grass and a Singh Ray Reverse ND filter.

Curious, since I know little of your part of the world, weatherwise this time of year, but is it cold there now?

Not cold yet at all. A few months time it will be though. The wind itself wasn't too bad, but it was whipping up the sand and it got a bit unpleasant at times. I would have stuck it out a bit longer but it was getting dark quickly and we had to walk back over a steep mountain track.
