Rotten weather outside so been going through one of the external drives.

Shot with a 60mm micro against a bit of card and processed with Nik Silver Efex.

I wonder if a softer film type like Panotomic X might soften this a little...seems the grain structure is too high for the delicacy of the plant structure.

Hi Robin,

My 'contribution' is to question the aspect ratio of the subject compared to the frame, it just doesn't seem to be complimentary - the bloom is sorta lost and smack in the middle.

Chris - I was going for a grainy feel having planned it from the very start of the shoot but I take your point and yes a softer version would be complimentary to the subject..

Dave if you look through my images you will find a strong central bias to many. The 'rule of thirds' is all well and good but I find the symmetry that can be achieved with a central subject very exciting and challenging.

I like this kind of effect - a single object in a monotone black background. It gives you a lot of opportunities to play around the frame and compose the shot in multiple ways. Putting the subject dead center is one of them. Any other ways you've tried to compose this one, Robin? In a very minimalistic way I do like it.

I think I did a square crop too but can't put my finger on it - you get the idea though.

Persoanlly I think this would better in a portrait format but it would need to be retaken unfortunately.
