Does PSE9 have 16 bit layers?
That's it. I want to upgrade from PSE7 if true.

Re: Does PSE9 have 16 bit layers?
Hei Steve,
I have PSE8 and can open 16 bit/channel camera RAW in the Editor ... is this what you are referring to?

Re: Does PSE9 have 16 bit layers?
Thanks Ron; I can do that with PSE7 and even crop or adjust levels and other basic operations in 16 bit. But I have to convert to 8 bit to apply levels.
Just thought since PSE9 has masks which I will never use, it might have 16 bit levels.

Sorry Steve, misread your query
.
Have a look at this http://www.flickr.com/groups/pse/dis...7625003313838/
It seems to suggest that such is possible

Re: Does PSE9 have 16 bit layers?
Cheers Ron; they say not. But one did suggest a trick of moving an image using the move tool while ALT is pressed. This worked in PSE7 but was much too fiddly. It didn't seem stable either.
Goes to show that 16 bit is deliberately prevented from working in PSE.

Yes I noticed the bit about ...
But you can actually use layers in 16-bit. Just go to the move-button, hold the ALT-key, and move the image - and there; a new layer in 16 bit will pop up.
Didn't try it but from what you say its best avoided.
Looks like a big spend up ... birthday maybe
Good luck
