    What would you do?

I only had enough time to take one photo that didn't show the detail well but caught the scene and the light well. Then I took another that was a bit too light.

I'd love you to give some ideas on what I could have done to catch the atmosphere and a bit more detail without the noise that troubles me.

    Hi Diane,

The noise doesn't need to be there!

    What would you do?

Hey guys, take pity on me - at least tell me how you got rid of the noise. I used my 2nd hand CS2s noise despeckle function 3 times before posting and could hardly see any change. What did you do, Dave? And, is there a way to get a bit more detail in the "yellow pic - because from where we were, that was more like what we were seeing, but I think it is too over exposed.

For low light, night scenes, and dark settings where light sources are within the field of view, I shoot with film and select area metering to ensure preserving a sense of the dynamic range without the added digital noise.

It's precisely to capture images like this that I've purchased my Sigma SA-9 to complement my SD14 using the same lenses. Look on ebay for a fSLR camera body that is compatible with your dSLR lens collection, they usually are quite affordable.

    Hi Diane,

It's no secret, I actually said how "(Neat Image)", but it was perhaps a bit cryptic
    Here's the link; http://www.neatimage.com/
... and here's a thread that explains how simple it can be to use; Neat Image, a simple workflow

The answer, for both of you is to try that View Tag Cloud link at bottom left of every thread, then select "noise reduction"

Diane, I also did a straighten, a small reduction (to 700px) and sharpen.

    Cheers,

Thanks Dave. I didnt even notice that it needed straightening. I have downloaded Neat image and am delighted with it. It works much better than Photoshop CS2. Thanks for sharing the info.
